The first salsa I ever sold, Salsa Chile de Árbol … my trick is to eat it warmed up on eggs. Find a jar for yourself on our website and show us how you cook with your salsa

Making carnitas in my instant pot while juggling two babes. It was easy! Eliana helped. You’ll hear her sweet voice. 💕 It’s hot here in California so we made margaritas. I ground chile cascade with cinnamon and clove and salt, seared the meat, added onion, garlic, water and our Salsa Macha. Cooked it for 1 1/2 hours- shredded everything and ate it with my Mama’s famous green sauce. (Recipe on our website) carnitas recipe coming to inboxes - sign up for our emails 🌵🌶️

So many notes. So many to do’s. So much inspiration. So much history. Running a business is no small feat. Here is what surrounds us inside Tienda Salsita’s office.

A few weeks ago I did a demo at .

We are so happy to be stocked there! I gave some of the chefs some salsita to take home after my demo. Everyone had tried it and loved it.

Jose, my new friend, was asking me about my grinding stones and what they were for. “ usamos un molino para moler nuestra salsa.” We use a molino to grind our salsa- and these are the grinding stones. My new friend Jose told me about how he also used those stones back in his hometown in Mexico to grind cheese.

This was wild to me. I know a lot about molinos and a lot about grinding stones but I’d never heard of someone grinding fresh cheese in them.

He told me about his family farm… And how they used to have cows and milk by hand and sell milk to the pueblo. All that changed when big dairy came in and they were able to undercut the price of the locally produced milk.

They would make cheese with the excess milk they didn’t sell, mill it, and wrap in a beautiful leaf. This image of freshly milled cheese beautifully wrapped in a leaf is gorgeous in my mind.

It reminds me of the hand wrapped eggs in corn husk I would buy at the mercado in Oaxaca.

This is what Jose made with my salsa.

Nopales cooked dry on the comal. Nopal is the young cactus leaf. Fried eggs(he said 8!!) and fresh cheese bathed in our Salsa Macha with a side of pork.

He showed me this photo a few weeks after I gave him the salsa and I’m so proud to share it with to now.

Gratitude.

For all women on this earth.

For the women who have inspired and supported me and this business since its inception.

My Tia who taught me how to make salsa de molcajete- never skipping steps, never taking shortcuts. Toasting and grinding by hand. Tirelessly working her own food business in Mexico and inspiring me in mine every day.

My Nana who instilled my love of the Spanish language and Latin America and connected me to my ancestry that feels so important. Who was my biggest supporter and I know still is.

My Mama who has supported me and loved me fiercely since the day I took my first breath.

My step mom who is a fierce business woman and has taught me to dot my i’s and cross my t’s.

The working mothers and women friends I have in my life that literally GIVE ME LIFE.

My small team of 3 women that help Tienda Salsita run. Somos familia.

I am so damn inspired by the women around me and the women I see out in the world changing it for the better. Gratitude and love for women on this international women’s day.

I see you chingonas 😘❤️‍🔥 -K (founder and owner)

We start our days in the kitchen at 5:30.
My small team and I cook. We’ve been making salsa together for 5 years now.
We laugh, we problem solve, we can’t quite figure out why things sometimes still go wrong!?
We try to optimize our process.
I am appreciative of my team. Mi equipo.
We only speak Spanish in the kitchen and it always brings me back to fond memories in Mexico.

Two days of breakfasts while produced last week. Salsa keeps us fueled!

1. Chile Morita warmed (nice trick to increase flavor!)with fried eggs. 🌶️🍳
2. Leftover potatoes fried in Salsa Macha with fried eggs on toast. 🥔🍳

TRABAJO. A POEM FOR YOU

I’ve loved poetry for as long as I can remember. Since having children I do not read or write as much as I once did. But recently, I felt inspired to write one of my own. I want to share it with you and I hope you enjoy it.

2025 review is late, but it’s still this January!

Last year was beautiful and hard in ways I didn’t always share in real time. There were moments of momentum, moments of doubt, and a lot of showing up anyway. This work continues to stretch me — creatively, emotionally and as a business owner.

As we step into a new year, there’s a lot happening in the world and a lot being asked of us as individuals and as a community. The way I know how to respond is through my work: choosing to source from Latino and small farmers, to pay people fairly, and to employ and collaborate with members of our local Latin community — not as a trend, but as a long-term commitment rooted in respect and relationships.

This business has always been about more than salsa. It’s about people, connection, and care — and about building something that feels aligned with my values even when things feel uncertain.

Thank you for being here, for supporting small, values-driven businesses like Tienda Salsita, and for continuing to show up with intention and love.
