Today we lost our OG boy, Nedward. He was our first chicken on the homestead and funny enough came to us as the "free surprise chick" from McMurray Hatchery last year. We had no idea he would grow into such a beautiful Blue Cochin rooster. He was definitely the gateway chicken and a big reason why we now have so many more chickens. Our hope was to start a breeding flock with him next year and it breaks my heart we won't get that chance now. For seemingly no reason at all loss happens and that's the part we hate most about homesteading.

P.S. I knew if I used a sad song it would only break my heart more so when this song popped up randomly I knew it was perfect.

Decided to take advantage of Prime Days to try out some different treat varieties from . We usually only do their mealworms but after how much they enjoyed these we'll have to start including them too in our monthly order.

*Not sponsored just a huge fan (though you wouldn't catch me saying no đŸ˜‰)*

6 months later and he still hasn't figured it out. Oh Arthur...

I love taking pictures of all my birds but I also really enjoy finding mushrooms in the woods and capturing them as well. Although, it's much harder to do when you have turkeys following you around. I had to be quick taking the photos otherwise I risked them being trampled or eaten by my feathered friends.

If Arthur doesn't come out making a loud, extravagant entrance then what's even the point?

We didn't get home until late tonight and they had an awful lot to say about it. They are also the only birds on the property that are enjoying this wet and windy weather.
