Here is some good information from our friends in Kerrville .
🐐 PARASITE CONTROL — IT’S MORE THAN JUST WORMING
One of the biggest challenges we face when raising show goats is staying ahead of parasites. A good parasite-management program can make a huge difference in how an animal grows, performs, and ultimately looks in the show ring.
Here at MB Show Goats, we’ve dealt with our share of parasite issues, including coccidiosis. One thing we’ve learned is that simply giving a dewormer isn’t always the answer.
Coccidia are not worms, so traditional dewormers do not treat coccidiosis. That’s why it’s important to know what you’re dealing with before automatically reaching for a wormer.
We like to pay close attention to:
• Body condition and weight gain
• Hair coat and overall appearance
• Stool consistency
• Appetite and attitude
• Pale eyelids or other signs of anemia
• Keeping pens, feeders, and water sources as clean and dry as possible
When something doesn’t look right, f***l testing can help identify the problem and guide treatment instead of simply guessing.
Good parasite management isn’t about worming on a calendar—it’s about watching your animals, knowing what’s normal, and treating the problem you actually have.
Healthy goats perform better, grow better, and have a much better opportunity to reach their full potential.
