Lou loves her some neck scratches! This is my 13 year old daughter, her desire is to be a large animal vet, she's learning a lot with us having a cow now. She leads her to milk every morning and helps me milk her. She gave her the meds needed when she got mastitis just after freshening, she makes sure her udder gets moisturized after milking and helps with any minor cuts and scraps Lou gets while foraging. It's so fun watching these kids grow and learn things they love! This is one I really didn't think she'd get experience with for a few years, but God had a different plan I guess. We are blessed!

Lou loves neck scratches! This is my 2nd daughter, she wants to be a large animal vet when she grows up, she's my milking partner and she leads Lou everywhere. It's so fun to watch these kids grow up and come into their personalities. So blessed!

The sights of walking out to the woods to check the cow. There always a cat or two hanging out, chickens scratching in the leaves and spreading cow pies helping fertilize the ground, our beautiful Lou and her sweet calf Gary. Truly idk how God chose to bless me with this life, every day is a learning curve, there's joy and there is pain. So grateful for it all.

I was walking out into the woods to find Jimmy (my husband for those who don't know), he was moving the fence for Lou our milk cow and Gary her calf.... This caught my eye... It's not fall yet, but we are in a very hot and dry spell here in Arkansas so some leaves are turning brown already.... Makes me yearn for the cool fall days and falling leaves. So grateful for this little life God has given us

Daily milking is a family affair around here! I I didn't have anyone take a picture of me and I missed at least one kid who helped, but this is such a dream come true for me! My hands are sore and my eyes are tired, but I wouldn't change it for anything. This is the life I have always wanted to give my children. God is so good, if we follow His leading, he gives us the desires of our heart. I can tell you for many many years I never expected we would actually get here. Raising meat chickens, egg layers, geese and ducks..... milking our cow and raising a calf for beef....the dream I was afraid would never come true, but here we are, many years of hard work, love and faith have brought us to this point. Thankful and proud every day for my beautiful family and how hard they (we) all work for what we have.

Well, we were planning on having a calf and starting to milk our beautiful Lou early November, apparently dates were a little off and she calved this beautiful bull calf on Tuesday! So we have been thrown into caring for a milk cow/calf pair and milking much earlier than expected, but truly this is farming! 😂 We are feeling very tired and blessed 😂 not only are we now milking but we've already dealt with a short case of Mastitis (I cannot recommend homeopathics enough they fixed this so quickly!), she's a wonderful cow and hasn't given us too many issues with milking even though we don't yet have her stanchion or any other milking supplies.

We are all learning to milk and taking turns to rest our aching hands as they gain the muscles needed for milking gallons of milk each day. But felt so blessed to have our coffee this morning from our own milk for the first time this morning.

I can't believe I've been so busy I haven't even introduced y'all to our beautiful Lou! She's a sweet and beautiful hojo (Holstein/Jersey cross ) we got her from a friend who had to move off land and she needed a new pasture to roam in, we didn't expect to be able to get a cow for a couple years, so this was such a blessing.

We have another little surprise for you I'll post about later today as well, so keep an eye out! You won't want to miss my next post!

I've been working really hard this year to try and get all the produce canned for us to last a year. Hopefully next year I'll be able to grow it soon myself, but I've been so blessed by local growers and I'm so happy to be able to support them in purchasing produce. Got the last of Farmstead236 cucumbers of the year since I was late in doing pickles

Excited to really be getting started on our giant tomato haul! First batch of tomato product done today, 10 pints ketchup. So excited to be making all our tomato products for the year with tomatoes from Ahillen Acres. Locally grown without harsh chemicals. I'm telling y'all, do what you can to support your local farmers!
