Ingredients
For the Chicken Filling:
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cooked and shredded)
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp sesame oil
For the Wonton Shells:
20 wonton wrappers
1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Slaw:
2 cups shredded cabbage (green or mixed)
1/2 cup shredded carrots
1/4 cup cilantro (chopped)
2 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp honey
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken Filling:
In a medium bowl, combine the shredded chicken, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, garlic powder, ground ginger, and sesame oil. Mix until the chicken is well-coated. Let it marinate for a few minutes.
2. Make the Slaw:
In a separate bowl, toss together shredded cabbage, carrots, and chopped cilantro. Drizzle with rice vinegar and honey, then season with salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
3. Fry the Wonton Shells:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the wonton wrappers, a few at a time, for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until golden and crispy. Use tongs to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
4. Assemble the Tacos:
Once the wonton shells are cool enough to handle, fill each shell with a generous scoop of the chicken mixture. Add a spoonful of slaw on top, drizzle with sweet chili sauce, and garnish with fresh cilantro.
5. Serve:
Arrange the tacos on a serving platter and serve immediately while the wonton shells are crispy.
Pro Tips:
Baking Option: For a lighter version, brush wonton wrappers with oil, drape them over an oven-safe rack, and bake at 375ยฐF (190ยฐC) for 8-10 minutes until crispy.
Protein Swap: Substitute the chicken with ground turkey, pork, or tofu for a vegetarian-friendly twist.
Make-Ahead Tip: Prep the filling and slaw ahead of time, then assemble just before serving for maximum crispiness.
