Mama Tree Farm Choco Chip Cookie recipe UPDATE

Because early this year I changed to excellent organic minimally processed sugar, the crystals don’t dissolve as quickly as highly processed white sugar. The cookies were coming out thicker and crunchier than I wanted.

The answer: These larger crystals require more hydration, ie, more butter and more time in the frig.

Flavor benefit too! Minimally processed organic sugar crystals are coated with a thin layer of molasses providing the sugar with a soft caramel taste.

Use 2 sticks of butter and chill the cookie dough for at least an hour in the frig for more hydration.

Digging plants, painting walls, ruthlessly helping me throw sh$t out, recycling ancient crusty paint, bringing me dinner, cutting down trees to bring in light (and views), and keeping me laughing, I am so grateful to all my friends and family who made this move bearable. It takes a village of great friends to move a farm. I owe you big time.

I will miss you so much, my flowers. I love how you defy me, and choose liberation whenever possible. Your expression, whether exuberance or quiet calm, surprises me always. I will endlessly attempt to honor your identities, a feisty chorus with individuals who refuse to follow the choral score. I love you for this.

As always, this mix is made with our proprietary blend of six different ancient plant flours and 100% naturally gluten-free ingredients. Non GMO, heirloom corn flour with fabulous flavor grown by Mike Snow of Post Mills Eggs and Grains, Vermont.

As a designer in all parts of my life, I like to experiment. I rarely stay with one style or formula. In design school, I was taught to constantly deconstruct. Try ideas and throw them out. Always imagine possibilities. With flowers, I am just beginning to have the confidence and knowledge of each flower to experiment more courageously. I am in my fourth season of flower farming and yet feel I am just beginning the design journey. So much more to come. Huge thanks to Geo Low who experiments with me, playing with flowers and exhausting ourselves in the rush of creative exploration with this ephemeral medium.

What makes a great bouquet?
So many answers. Here’s one:
Begin with the soil to create vibrant, healthy blooms.
And buy local fresh flowers.
Also ask your farmer, are these blooms refrigerated? If so, for how long?
The longer the refrigeration, the shorter the vase life.
