Weedy flower bed? Now is the best time to clean out flowerbeds, lay w**d barrier, and add mulch. Whether it's a small front yard or a larger garden.

My cleanups include pulling w**ds, clearing debris and removing dead plants to refreshing soil, cleaning edges, and reshaping the layout for a polished, organized look. Old mulch can be replaced or replenished, creating the perfect foundation for healthy plant growth and long-lasting blooms.

Lawn Maintenance Tip - Why Scalp a Lawn?
Scalping is the process of cutting your lawn at the lowest mower setting, typically 1 to 2 inches. This removes excess thatch—a layer of dead shoots, roots, and grass blades that sits between the soil and your grass. Scalping also allows more sunlight to reach the soil, helping to warm it and promote healthier growth. On average, scalping produces 5+ bags of clippings, which Lamarche Lawns hauls away for you. What is scalping? We set the mower at the lowest level to cut your lawn extremely short, usually 1.5 inches. This helps remove excess thatch. Thatch is the dead layer of shoots, roots, and blades that sit in between the soil and your grass. Scalping also allows extra sunlight to warm your soil, which encourages growth and health. Once the temperature rises, scalping does more damage than good.

When trimming bushes, make sure you remember to open up the shrub and clean out remaining leaves and other debris that may have fallen into the interior. Removing this debris will open up the airflow to the plant’s interior which is vital to its overall health.

A well-maintained hedge can increase the value of your home, which may be your most valueable assets. The opposite is also true as a poorly trimmed hedge may detract from a home’s value.

How can I tell is my mower blade is sharp? You want your lawnmower blade sharpened to a 30 degree angle. Sharp enough to cut the grass without tearing or ripping it, but not so fine that the blade can be easily damaged by small debris in the lawn.

Why does Lamarche Lawns use sharp blades? Because if we don't it does this to your grass. Only mow sharp!

Lawn Maintenance Tip: how to prune shrubs in our area?

This is the third step (see prior posts for the first two steps)

Step 3. It may be necessary to make additional corrective pruning cuts to get rid of weak or narrow crotches.

Once you have completed these three pruning steps, stand back and take a look at your work. Remember that pruning at the wrong time does not kill a shrub, what kills a shrub is pruning it in a way that weakens it.

Lawn Maintenance Tip: How to prune shrubs in our area? Three steps. Step 1 was already posted, here is the next step:

Step 2) Punning or making "training" cuts. This is where you cut branches that are growing the wrong direction so that the remaining branches are pointed in the right direction. This helps give the shrub the desired shape, location of shade, and clear of your roof, driveway or walkways.

Step 3) coming later

Lawn Maintenance Tip: How to prune shrubs in our area? Three steps.

Step 1) Remove dead, diseased and broken limbs first. You do this by cutting them at the point of origin. By taking this first step, the canopy is often sufficiently open so that no further pruning is needed

Steps 2) and 3) coming later
