What is scalping? We set the mower at the lowest level to cut your lawn extremely short, usually 1.5 inches. This helps remove excess thatch. Thatch is the dead layer of shoots, roots, and blades that sit in between the soil and your grass. Scalping also allows extra sunlight to warm your soil, which encourages growth and health. Once the temperature rises, scalping does more damage than good.
