Pavlish Acres Farm

Pavlish Acres Farm We are a small but growing homestead in southern Gage County Nebraska. We have goats, chickens, ducks, as well as the usual cats and dogs.

Personal pets of our daughter include another dog, geckos and rats. We are expanding into produce for 2026.

I love the fact that we have the knowledge and ability to do this also.

When the husband stops at the feed store on his way home from work and then messages you that they have ducks. Then that he talked the manager down from $8/each to $2/each and he’s getting ten. Only to find out that after further negotiations, they agreed to $1/each if he took all they had. $8 for one, $20 for ten, $24 for twenty-four. I think he did well.

A quick conversion of one of our sheds from storage and a planned dog house (that the big guys have never used) to a duck house happened soon after he got home. We need to make a few other changes, but soon, our large ducks will be joining the baby ducklings in there as well.

Updates coming soon!

These two big boys came to our place today to live. The all white one is Bear, the multicolor one is Zeus. Bear is a purebred Great Pyrenees, and Zeus is GP and Anatolian mix. When they arrived, my daughter and I took them for a walk around our main yard. We walked by the cats, the goats, the chickens, as well as our own (very bark-y) dogs. They were unfazed and seemed aloof to all of them. They will be a great fit here at our place. I’m excited to work with them and get them ready to take care of their own animals. From what I have seen so far, it looks like it won’t take a whole lot for them to be able to do that. They had a great family before they came here and it shows in their temperament. ❤️

Welcome to the farm, Bear and Zeus!

The last post, we had laid the linoleum in the chicken coop. Chris ended up with some unexpected extra time at home before a work trip, so we worked hard on taking some of these shelves apart so we could use the plywood on the inside of the coop to protect the sill plates and studs. Then it was a matter of getting the pieces all out to the coop (including the frames, as the coop was a good place to store them temporarily till it is ready for chickens) Then we cut and ripped some of the plywood pieces to fit and hung it like drywall. Now that part is complete and I can work on moving the frames out and the chickens in this weekend!

Chicken coop linoleum is laid. Now need the interior boards like the goat shed, the p**p decks, roosting bars and nesting boxes. Those are all projects for another day.
