Arranging flowers for me is like painting. Mixing shades and tones; textures and movement - I start with a framework and layer specific pieces until it feels right. It takes time and intention and lots of practice to be an artist and create art, no matter your medium. Flower arranging is no different! Taking your time and really thinking about where and how you are placing stems for example, will take your arrangement to a different level, just like a painter contemplates brushstrokes!

This arrangement was inspired by three dahlias similar in jewel tones, but of different shapes which complement each other well. It’s my favorite way to bring a cohesive look to a dahlia arrangement - pick three dahlias of similar color but different forms: one ball dahlia, one pompon and one texture, such as a waterlily, cactus or something with fluffy petals. It’s an easy trio and it always looks good.

Sweet like candy! 🍭 A challenge to use some crazy bright yellow snapdragons? Yes please! I paired that highlighter yellow with candy pink, rosy blush, little pops of yellow to spread out the brights and cheery daisies which echo the yellow but are softened by the little white petals.

Sometimes when I am arranging I am inspired by a single flower and I build up the supporting cast around that main character. And other times it’s a color that grabs my eye in the garden and I just have to do something with it! In this case it was the latter. Red snapdragons are a must grow in my book (because of the drama!) and this year they were planted right across from the deep purple quartet stock which is a delicious combination. I added in a few ‘Green Twister’ echinacea for a pop of bright green and pulled it together with a handful of ‘Levi’s Tomato’ dahlias which are stunning this year!

I am convinced there are no “bad” or “problem” colors, there are just colors which need others around them in order to shine the way they were intended to. Red often gets a bad rap for being hard to work with, but when you mix it right, the results are some of my favorite. ✨

At the end of June my youngest daughter turned 10 and requested that mama make her a birthday flower crown! 🥹 This was so much fun to create! I mainly used sweet peas, roses, stock and nigella, filling in with daisies and feverfew. She looked like a garden fairy! 🧚

Rosy pink ombré blooms with gold tips and all the petals! What’s not to love?! This is Hillier Tanunda - another new to us dahlia this season - and I really love her. 🩷 She’s a mini formal decorative which works very well in bouquets, but despite her smaller size, has petals for days and looks amazing from all angles! Check out those swirly petals in the back!

Hi, I’m Chelsea and I love playing with flowers! 💐 And as it turns out, my better half loves taking photos, especially if it involves me and flowers! So I guess it works pretty well. 😉

I really wanted to showcase Mellum Nina in a hand-tied spiral bouquet, bringing out her creamy lavender undertones with a palette of purples and bright greens. The queen (Mellum Nina, not me 😂) needed a little drama so we brought out the mood lighting and I really love the result!
