Farming— the art of working with the weather. I’m giggling inside knowing that this past winter was so mild and thinking “oh, harvest might be a little earlier this year” jokes on me. Our spring was nuts, not unusual, but it sure did take the lavender plants for a wild ride this year. The heat ramped up for a few weeks pretty early, my plants said- oh my, it must be time, let’s get growing.. and so they did. A few weeks later, we got cold again, and they were even more confused. The weather was up and down until it finally decided it wanted to snow a little bit, and then froze. I had stems on my plants that just toppled over like they were defeated. It didn’t take long to warm back up and they started growing again.
But, with that being said, it’s stunted the stems from growing the beautiful long stems Deeply Rooted is known for, and the plants look like my second harvest I get after the first harvest is over for the season. I am still very grateful to even see blooms this year because I was getting worried. I knew all the plants were alive, but I didn’t know what summer would look like…. Well, it looks like I’ll be extremely busy in a few weeks.
