Left alone, it can turn into standing water, unpleasant odors, or a complete blockage.

A septic backup can quickly become a messy and expensive problem. While routine pumping and maintenance are important, the everyday habits inside your home also play a major role in keeping your system healthy.

The safest rule is simple: only human waste and septic-safe toilet paper should go into the toilet.

Even products labeled “flushable” may not break apart quickly enough. Wipes, paper towels, facial tissues, feminine hygiene products, cotton swabs, dental floss, hair, and cat litter can collect inside your plumbing and contribute to serious blockages.

Your drains should not be treated like trash cans either. Grease and cooking oil can cool and harden inside pipes, while food scraps and coffee grounds add unnecessary solids to the septic tank. Medications, paint, solvents, and harsh chemicals can also interfere with the beneficial bacteria your septic system relies on to break down waste.

Watch for early signs of a septic problem, including:

Multiple slow-moving drains
Gurgling toilets or pipes
Sewage odors inside or outside
Water pooling near the drain field
Recurring backups in sinks, tubs, or toilets

Small habits can make a big difference. Keeping the wrong items out of your plumbing can help reduce buildup, prevent backups, and protect the life of your septic system.

Here’s your sign to stop ignoring that slow drain 👀🔧💧

If water is pooling in the sink or taking forever to go down, there may be buildup or a blockage forming below the surface.

Slow drains rarely fix themselves, and waiting too long can turn a small clog into a much bigger plumbing problem.

Let Fletcher’s clear it out before your drain stops draining altogether!

A leaky faucet may seem like a minor annoyance, but ignoring it can lead to more than an irritating dripping sound.

Even a slow leak can waste water every day, gradually increasing your monthly utility bill. Over time, moisture can also spread around the sink and damage cabinets, countertops, flooring, or other nearby materials.

The area beneath a sink is often dark and enclosed, making it an ideal place for mold and mildew to grow. You may notice musty odors, water stains, warped wood, rust, or pooling water before realizing how long the leak has been there.

A dripping faucet can also signal that an internal component—such as a washer, seal, or cartridge—is wearing out. As those parts continue to deteriorate, a manageable leak can eventually become a larger plumbing failure or unexpected emergency.

Watch for these warning signs:

Dripping after the faucet is turned off
Water collecting around the faucet base
Stains or moisture beneath the sink
Rust or corrosion around the fixture
Musty odors near cabinets
An unexplained increase in your water bill

Taking care of the problem early can help prevent water waste, hidden damage, mold growth, and more expensive repairs.

Tankless water heaters have become one of the most popular upgrades for homeowners, and for good reason.

✔ Endless hot water
✔ Improved energy efficiency
✔ Longer lifespan than traditional tank models
✔ Compact design that frees up space

But they're not the right fit for every home.

In this video, we break down the pros, the cons, and what homeowners should consider before making the switch.

Have questions about tankless water heaters? Give our team a call. We're always happy to help you find the right solution for your home.

Every person in a home contributes to water use through daily activities such as showering and doing laundry.

Larger households generate significantly more water, which pushes more waste into the septic tank. That increased flow leaves less time for solids to settle and separate properly.

As a result, the tank fills faster and requires more frequent pumping.

When water moves too quickly through the system, it disrupts the natural breakdown process.

Solids can flow into the drain field before they fully decompose, which leads to clogs and long-term damage. A family of five or more often needs pumping every two to three years, rather than the typical three to five years.

Adjusting the schedule based on usage protects the entire system from overload.

Hot water problems can bring your business to a halt fast. Especially when customers and staff rely on it all day long.

We recently helped a local restaurant in Lincoln that was dealing with multiple failing water heater units. One had a bad gas valve, another had a leaking heat exchanger, and the entire system was hanging on by a thread.

Our team worked with a local supplier in Sacramento to get all three old units replaced with a new high-efficiency commercial tankless setup designed to work together as one system.

The biggest advantage? Redundancy.

For restaurants, apartment complexes, and other commercial properties, downtime isn’t really an option. If one unit ever has an issue, the others can continue carrying the load so the building still has hot water when it matters most.

Another huge benefit is serviceability. These systems are designed to be diagnosed and repaired quickly, often without needing major shutdowns or after-hours scheduling.

Efficient. Reliable. Built for businesses that can’t afford interruptions.

Your water heater is one of the hardest working systems in your home. And like most things, it rarely fails out of nowhere.

It usually gives you warning signs first.

Here’s what to watch for:

1. Inconsistent Hot Water
If your water goes hot, then cold, then hot again, your system may be struggling to keep up or starting to fail internally.

2. Running Out of Hot Water Too Fast
If your showers are getting shorter, sediment buildup inside the tank could be reducing capacity.

3. Strange Noises
Popping or rumbling sounds often mean there’s hardened sediment at the bottom of the tank. This forces your system to work harder and can lead to damage over time.

4. Discolored or Rusty Water
This can be a sign your tank is corroding from the inside. Once that starts, replacement is usually not far behind.

5. Age of the Unit
Most traditional water heaters last around 8 to 12 years. If yours is in that range, it’s worth having it looked at before it becomes an emergency.

The reality is, most major water heater failures could be avoided with early attention or routine maintenance.

At Fletchers, we help you understand what’s actually going on. Whether it’s a simple repair, a flush, or time to replace the unit, we’ll walk you through your options so you can make the right call for your home.

If you’re doing work on a commercial property, it’s easy to assume everything underground is accounted for.

But that’s not always the case.

We recently helped on a job where a crew hit a pipe during a routine dig. It was on private commercial property, so it wasn’t marked, and what started as a small project turned into a much bigger repair.

Situations like this can slow down timelines, impact operations, and add unexpected costs.

Before you break ground, it’s worth taking a second look and making sure you know what you’re working around.

If you want a second opinion or need help once something goes sideways, give us a call. We’re here to help you stay ahead of it.

A slow drain is one of those things people tend to ignore.

Until it turns into something you can’t ignore.

In most homes, it starts with buildup… or even tree roots getting into your pipes. And while store-bought cleaners can buy you some time, they don’t fix what’s actually going on.

If it keeps happening, or you’re seeing it in more than one place, it’s usually a sign to take a closer look.

We saw this recently with a homeowner in Yuba City — started small, turned into a full backup.

If you’re noticing something similar, we’re happy to take a look and help you get ahead of it.
