Maybe this is one of our dill-lovin' friends from this summer! I hope this means we will have more this year.

It's a battle of wills every summer as we watch our garden get overtaken by wave upon wave of critters that want to eat our food. Growing our garden without chemicals is something we have to make ourselves do some days. But seeing this lovely thing flitting around the henbit is reminded me that we aren't the only ones trying to eat. We don't need it all. Maybe someday, I'll figure out how to keep the grasshoppers and stink bugs and aphids out easily. But until then, I'll do the hard work for the butterflies and the bees.

Last Snow Day update: It's going to be a busy few weeks coming up so I decided to spend one more afternoon on the hoop house instead of getting everything ready for tomorrow. Priorities! Even after just a few weeks, the tarp really helped break down the grass and make it easier to break through the sod. It was much slower going today, so I added moisture and flipped the tarp hoping that I can finish the rest in a few weeks. With over half ready for compost, I should be able to plant all the English peas, chard and lettuce.

Progress! I've raked out all the dead grass the full length, and I'm one-quarter of the way done removing all the grass clumps. We should have scraped down to bare dirt before building, but living is learning, right? After removing the grass, I'll lay down a layer of compost and put a w**d barrier on top.
