It's the passion that drove the creation of Hood County Fresh - that small communities everywhere would discover the physical, mental, and economic benefits of connecting around local, fresh, in season food (and economics), and one of the easiest (but not only!) ways to do this is around a Farmers Market.

While we're thinking idyllically - HAVING NEVER RUN ONE! this is our dream Farmers Market.

#1 The priority of connecting community members seeking fresh, local, in season food with local farmers/ranchers/producers comes before everything else including individual agendas and profit.

The best way to do this is (in our opinion )

* have ONE Farmers Market in a given area. Having two or three Farmers Markets happening in a small municipality or community on a given weekend only dilutes the appeal and draw of the market, limits choice and weakens the experience of the consumers resulting in them not coming back.

* allow any farmer/rancher/producer who is willing to comply with a core set of values to participate (limiting for the sake of limiting competition only eventually hurts everyone)

Core values might be that they must be within a certain geographical area, they must grow/raise or produce the product they sell (no resellers), they must be below a certain size operation, maybe you don't require that it be organic / pasture raised or regenerative, but you require venders to clearly and transparently display whether they are or not.

CHOICE and variety bring buyers no matter what industry you're in - this is why Lowes, Home Depot and Walmart always try to build their stores next to each other.

* a Farmers Market where at least 60% of the venders aren't local food growers/ranchers/producers is not a Farmers Market - it's a Flea Market (nothing wrong with that, but call it what it is). A vender selling waterguns made in China is not a Farmers Market vender. Again... Flea Market.

Maybe someday... *sigh* BUT in the meantime, support your local producers! Your family, your health and your community flourishes when you do - whether it's at a Farmers Market or a Farm Stand or a visit to the farm on a Saturday afternoon - the ripple affect benefits are beyond what we can image. My own personal vision - tables and chairs where neighbors and sit and connect. :)

We've got some exciting news to share! Starting this week, the Hood County Farmers Market is adjusting its hours to better serve our vendors and community. 🎉

🕘 NEW Hours: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 🕛

Now you can enjoy fresh produce, meats, artisanal goods, and much more bright and early! Join us this Saturday and every Saturday thereafter for a delightful shopping experience that supports local growers and makers. Just a reminder, if it is raining, we will be INSIDE the YMCA, so please still come out and get your goodies this week!

It's going to be a great weekend for a farmers market! Check out all the amazing vendors we have this week. Come to the market to get everything from eggs to meat to produce, baked goods, teas, dog treats, blended oils and all kinds of things for your home and garden.

We recommend coming early to make sure you get what you want, but mostly so you can avoid the hotter parts of the day! We hope to see you there.

This Saturday 9am

I hear there's a cool front coming in this Saturday, it won't even hit triple digits! You know what that means - time to head to the farmers market! We have over 15 vendors with a wide variety of amazing items. We have everything from local honey to chic-nic tables and dog treats to local produce and beef to handcrafted items like candles and pottery.

Kyle Mathis-Music will be out this weekend to play us some beautiful music while you shop. We hope you can make it out!
