While updating flyers for the current semen sales we have, I got to reflect on the amazing specimen of a buck we get to own. We owe everything to a friend made this possible for us take our program to the next level. To some he might be just a buck, but he is proving to repeatedly produce success for us and others. We’ve learned along the way with him and find ourselves turning to him more and more. I also love when I get to see him used in other herds and from the moment they hit the ground I can tell it’s an Oaks.

Convention sales are in full force and we have straws available from our tank and with Blue Mountain of some of our bucks. Both of the Oaks collections are proven to work with kids on the ground.

I knew we needed to think about a new buck, this year, but wanted to make sure we made the right choice. I was going to push back a year and just haul our Holler daughters to be bred, but one night I opened FB to a group of bucklings made available and decided I would consider it. As one does, I’ve always admired the Wingwood herd, but last year and this year had the honor of helping handle many does at the shows and picking the brain of their amazing caregiver. Seeing how these does not only shine in the ring but excel at functioning outside of it is so valuable when picking genetics that you want capable of experiencing “real life”. I put my trust in the opinion of a breeder that knows her goats, and knows some of the things we need. When her recommendation aligned with some of the goats we had gravitated towards I was sold and made the jump. I like to tell Fauna all her goats have the same name and we joked that he was gonna be “George” cause that was easier and it stuck 😂. George has already bred a few does so hopefully we’ll have some announcements to post soon. I need to get some good pictures of him, but we’ve been breeding in the dark and it’s officially the season where bucks are gross so volunteers are welcome to come sacrifice themselves to that feat 🤢

A little after Swoon, Poppy got things going to deliver a chunky set of triplets. They are a sassy set but also so friendly. This set of kids is bittersweet as it is our final set of Meso kids since he is no longer with us. Due to our limited time with him this doeling is also retained. Bucklings available as wethers.

Update on our Monday kiddings (yes two!)

While we were expecting Poppy to go first, Swoon quickly popped out her little ones. I came out to check on Poppy who wasn’t getting things going and found babies everywhere 😂. They are so cute and sweet already too. Both Doelings are retained and the buckling will be available as a wether.

Pretty excited to use this guy and be able to combine some of our doe lines together while we watch his sister develop alongside him. It’s also nice when you have a pretty head to look at while you get smelly 🤢

A little sneak peak at our next baby announcement!

Nemo, our “useless” Shetland wether that has somehow stuck around over the years despite his distaste for most things, feels quite warm towards the newborns. He’s like the grumpy uncle that all the kids love. He’s usually barreling everyone out of the way at the feeder but went out of his way today and stand over the littles as they got their bearings. He made a pretty good nurse while mommas focused on the other kids, now if only I can teach him to lick them for us 😂 🤔

Annual Herd Health Testing

This is last minute, but if any of our locals would like assistance in getting their goats (or sheep) tested this year we are making a weekend of it (9/26-9/27). I have reached out to some of our 4-H kids but we are happy to help others navigate and learn how to submit samples. Now is a great time so you are ready to take does for stud service or have updated status when kids arrive that you need to market.

For our 4-H kids that aren’t in my group text reach for when we are doing our workshop.

Other new goat enthusiasts we are happy to help or have you out while we sample our own goat’s to learn the importance of testing and how to do it. Reach out for an appointment or when we will be conducting ours.

If this weekend doesn’t work for you are you still want to learn feel free to reach out we are happy to mentor and help anyone we can.
