💙 Treat Tip Tuesday – Get More Flavor From Your Lemons! 🍋

Since Lemon Almond Bread is going into this month's Bakery Box, today's tip is all about getting the most flavor from fresh lemons!

When a recipe calls for both lemon zest and lemon juice, always zest your lemon first! It's MUCH easier to zest a whole, firm lemon than one you've already cut and squeezed. 😊

A few other lemon tips:

🍋 Only zest the bright yellow part of the peel. The white pith underneath can be bitter.

🍋 Gently roll your lemon on the counter before cutting it to help release more juice.

🍋 Fresh zest adds so much lemon flavor without adding extra liquid to your recipe.

It's Bakery Box week! This month we're doing things a little differently—Saturday pickup at the Airway Heights Summer Market!

💙 Thankful Thursday 💙

As summer starts winding down, I've been thinking about how many people I've had the chance to connect with over the past few months.

Some of you stopped by my table at a market. Some picked up a Bakery Box. Some placed an order for a birthday, wedding, or just because you wanted cookies. And some simply stopped to say hi, ask how things were going, or tell me you enjoyed something I made.

Those little interactions are one of my favorite parts of having this business.

Of course I love baking, but I also love the PEOPLE. Seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, catching up with friends, giving hugs, and getting to be a tiny part of your celebrations and everyday lives.

As we get ready for our final summer market and head into fall craft fair season, I'm feeling especially thankful for everyone I've connected with this summer.

Thank you for continuing to show up for my little bakery. 💙

September is here, and we have some fun things coming up at Taylor'd Treats and Sweets!

Next Saturday is the last Airway Heights Summer Market of the year, and I'm doing something a little different, it's also going to be the September Bakery Pickup Day! 🎉

It's a little bittersweet to see summer market season come to an end. I've loved being part of the Airway Heights Summer Market and getting the chance to visit with so many of you. October begins the craft fairs, which means lots of baking, busy weekends, familiar faces, and fall treats. I'm ready!

🍊 Treat Tip Tuesday – Use the Zest!

Zest adds fresh, bright flavor to cookies and shortbread - especially lemon or orange. A little goes a long way.

Use a fine grater or microplane and only take the outer colored layer of the peel. That’s where all the flavor is. Avoid the white part underneath (the pith), since it can taste bitter.

Try adding zest to:
• Lemon crinkle cookies for extra pop
• Shortbread for a clean, fresh flavor
• Sugar cookies to brighten the whole batch
Pro tip: zest your fruit before juicing—it’s much easier to handle.

💙 Motivation Monday 💙

"May this journey be full of happy memories for you."

The beginning of a new school year always feels like a fresh start. New teachers, new classes, new friends, new challenges, and so many possibilities ahead.

For some, it's the very first day of school. For others, it's the beginning of their last year. And for everyone in between, there's a whole year of experiences waiting to happen.

There will be busy mornings, homework, practices, activities, successes, hard days, laughter, and plenty of growing along the way.

To all the students, teachers, parents, and school staff beginning a new school year- may you learn a lot, laugh often, find people who make your days better, and make memories you'll carry with you long after the school year ends.

Here's to a wonderful year ahead! 💙

💙 Thankful Thursday 💙

Looking back over the summer, one thing I'm especially thankful for is Tuesdays.

Tuesday is the one weekday I spend at home instead of at Kyle's office, and this summer I tried to be intentional about how I used that time.

Some Tuesdays were productive - LOTS of laundry, grocery shopping, organizing, deep cleaning, baking for orders, and catching up on all those things that seem to pile up during a busy week.

But I also made a point to use some of those Tuesdays for the things that are much easier to keep putting off.

💙 Spending time with friends I hadn't seen in far too long.
💙 Baking things just for my family.
💙 Visiting family in Oregon.
💙 Taking some time for myself.
💙 And sometimes simply slowing down.

Looking back, I'm really grateful that I didn't fill every available minute with another thing that needed to get done.

The laundry is never actually "done." There will always be another room to clean and another grocery list to make. But making time for the people I care about, and occasionally making time for myself, is something I want to keep being intentional about.

As summer comes to an end and our routines change again, I'm very thankful for my Tuesdays and everything I was able to fit into them this summer. 💙

💙 What's Happening Wednesday 💙

This week is filled with anticipation at our house—the kiddos are heading back to school!

This year we have an 8th grader, heading into his last year of middle school, and a SENIOR!! 🎓 How did that happen?!

There are so many great things ahead for both of these boys this school year. New experiences, big decisions, lasts and firsts, and plenty of memories to make along the way. I'm excited to watch it all happen (and maybe not quite ready for that senior year to go too quickly!).

And somehow, next week is already SEPTEMBER! 🍂

That means we're getting close to fall, summer markets are wrapping up, and craft fair season is right around the corner!

I have one last Airway Heights Summer Market this year:

Then it's time to start thinking about craft fairs, fall baking, and all those cozy treats that come with the season. 💙

🍪 Treat Tip Tuesday – Done or Not?

Cookies are done when the edges are set and just starting to turn a light golden color. The centers may still look a little soft—that’s exactly what you want.

Don’t wait for the tops to brown. By the time the whole cookie looks “done,” it’s usually overbaked and will turn out dry.

Pull them a minute early, let them rest on the pan for a few minutes, and they’ll finish baking perfectly with a soft center and just the right texture.
