🌼 Harvesting First Blooms 🌼
Looks like we are having to accept the fact that our Missouri spring just ain’t acting right this year, and our Cool Loving Spring Flowers just aren’t going to get the cold temps they needed to thrive.
What does that mean for us?
Welp, it doesn’t look like we are going to get to Market in May 🤷🏻♀️ There might be a chance they’ll pull through with some babying and prayers, but it’s not looking good folks.
We’ve had temps that would drastically fluctuate. I’m talking 18° at night and almost 90° during the day. With most days just being far too hot for our blooms to properly elongate for cutting.
I do have beautiful blooms…. Early blooms…. Too early for market… totally not on schedule…. aaaaand they’re like 4 inches tall.
No bueno 😝
BUT I’m going to keep plugging away
Keep cutting
Keep planting
Keep seeding
Keep praying
Keep hoping
And repeat
Not going to lie, it’s absolutely heartbreaking to have invested so much time (and money) into these blooms, covering and uncovering, babying them all winter long to not make any return on them, but that’s the part of farming no one usually pays attention to.
You may see the beautiful blooms, the harvest, the Instagram worthy posts but the heartache, painstaking work, and failed plans don’t usually make it to the highlight reel. But a REAL part of farming nonetheless.
Although I know: with this great heartache will come great joy. The work will pay off in the grand scheme of things.
And let me tell you what, July is going to be BURSTING with blooms 💐😍
I may not understand Gods plan, but I am going to try my best to trust it.
And I must say, it was so nice to get out in the field with my clippers to gather these flowers and for that I am thankful 🙏🏻❤️
