• the RS Glidewell crew •

It’s been nearly a year since we started this page and with all the new faces and names I thought it was time to reintroduce ourselves.

We’re the Glidewell’s - Riley, Shelby, Madelyn, Brycen, and Weston. We just recently celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary though we’ve been together since we were just babies, 17 and 18 to be exact.

Riley and I both come from agricultural backgrounds. My family goes back at least 5 generations and his goes back a few as well. Our kids play a large part in what we do here on our farm and we’re hoping that by including them in the day to day tasks they’ll want to carry on the tradition someday. The kids can often be found filling up or packing feed buckets to bunks, fueling up tractors, driving the four wheeler, or navigating the cab of a combine. We honestly could not ask for a better trio. We are certainly blessed.

Cows are sort of our thing. We raise lots of mama cows and have tons of babies running our pastures. We also feed out steers to have butchered for beef. We pride ourselves on the quality of our beef, our affordable pricing, and the lasting relationships we have built with our customers. We’re proud to use a local processor to keep money in our community and continue to support another local small family business.

Aside from cows we raise corn and soybeans. Our kids have their very own sweet corn patch that they manage and you’ll see them selling it soon!

The kitchen is my happy place. Whipping up sweet treats, fresh breads, and homemade meals using our beef brings me joy. Occasionally you’ll find some of our tried and true favorite recipes on here.

We look forward to seeing where this page takes us and sharing more about our passion for ag. We’re glad you’re here!

You might be a farm kid if…

You see a pair of plastic gloves and associate them with “a man putting his hand in a cows bottom”….

If you know, you know.

This popped up in my memories from a few years ago and we laugh every single time it comes up. For reference, the vet had just been out for a visit preg checking cows.

Some of the best words are those straight from a babes mouth!

• first dip in the pond •

We’ve caught a few good rains since the last time the kids and I checked out the pond. Lucky for them there was just enough water to have a little fun for a couple of hours.

The water’s a little dirty. The mud’s a little squishy. Someday there will be a dock. Someday it will be full of water. Someday there will be fish. And someday we’ll have nice blue water.

But we’re enjoying and making the best of what we have now. We left there sunkissed, cooled off, and a little sleepy.

Here’s to the summers ahead and more pond days. ☀️

• pond before vs after •

I just realized I never got around to sharing the before vs after of the site where we built the new pond.

The first two pictures were taken April 21st and the last two were taken May 25th - a week or so after the pond was finished.

Check out that awesome clean and clear view! It’s hard to imagine that these pictures were even taken in the same spot.

Don’t worry about the loss of trees, there are hundreds more all around this acreage for plenty of wildlife to inhabit. It was crucial that this short row of trees and brush be taken out to allow the rain water to run seamlessly down the waterway and safely spill in the pond.

It took a few weeks to get the brush and trees cleared off but work was made easy with the use of a trackhoe, bulldozer, and skidsteer. And several hours of labor put in by Riley and my dad.

Once we had everything cleaned up a whole new crew came in with their dozers and starting digging the pond. They did a fabulous job on it and got it done pretty quick!

The last picture is a close up view of the pond. It takes up a full acre and is super deep. {yep, that’s a 6 year old standing in the bottom}

Any guesses on how long it will take to fill it up?

• here’s something special to celebrate the 4th •

These are so fun and so yummy! Treat yourself. Treat your friends. Treat your family. These are worth the calories. If it makes you feel better, holiday calories don’t count.

This round I’m only offering three flavors with limited availability to keep things simple. These are bakery style cupcakes and quite dreamy to be honest.

Order a dozen of one flavor or customize yours with a mix of two or all three.

These will be ready for pickup or drop off on July 4th. If you need your order for a celebration before or after the 4th we can work that out.

Orders will close Saturday June 29th at 1 pm if all of my spots aren’t already taken.

❤️🤍💙

*update sold out!*

We’ve gone through an unbelievable amount of butter and powdered sugar over the last 18 hours resulting in 9 dozen cupcakes and one decorated 9x13 cake.

This order was a “whatever you want to do” order for a special anniversary and I hope they’ll be thoroughly enjoyed!

This time I went with
🧁 confetti with whipped chocolate buttercream
🧁 confetti with vanilla buttercream
🧁 stuffed cookies and cream with whipped Oreo frosting
🧁 stuffed Reese’s with whipped chocolate peanut butter frosting
🧁 stuffed Boston Cream Pie with whipped chocolate buttercream

With that said… I have 3 extra dozen {several of each flavor per box} ready for a loving home. These are BIG bakery style cupcakes. I may be partial, but they’re pretty good! I bet I’ve got a few that could leave some raving reviews.

$15/dozen and I can meet or drop off in town this afternoon. 🫶🏼

13/06/2024

Our evening walks are really meant to wear the 3 year old down. But in reality he wears mom down.

We can typically get 3+ miles in every evening and he insists on walking two of those by himself “pushing the stroller”.

He’s a hoot. He doesn’t miss a beat on anything. And you can bet he will notice everything. E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Including when the neighbor{s} park their equipment in a different spot than the day before. Or a new piece of equipment shows up.

Every ditch has to be inspected. Every sound is questioned. And no rock is left unturned.

Get those kiddos out in nature. It’s good for their souls {and yours too!}

• sweet corn •

The kids were finally able to get their sweet corn in the ground this evening. We’re anxious for juicy corn dripping in butter. Our fave!

If you’re new to our page this is Mady, Brycen, and Weston’s project. This is something we’ve wanted to do for several years for them and we’re proud to say that this is their second year at it.

From start to finish all three kids play a key role in the process. They help work the dirt, they help plant the corn, they help pick it, and if you’re lucky enough they help deliver it.

The income made gets split into thirds and finds its way in to each of their piggy banks.

They are learning that the best reward is one that they’ve worked hard for. It’s never too early to start teaching valuable life lessons.

10/06/2024

Is anyone else guilty at immediately saying “inside OR outside, one or the other” or “close the door” to their kids every time it opens what seems every 5 seconds? And at least 5000 {no less} times an hour?

They need a drink. They need a snack. They need to get a toy to take out. They need different shoes. They need gloves. It never fails there’s always something they NEED from inside the house.

But the flies. The endless supply of flies. There are so, so many. And every time the door opens at least 4 come in with the kid.

So between the sound of the door opening and closing nonstop, the swarm of flies that conveniently find their way inside, or the “mom I need…” it’s so very easy to fast track to autopilot and spew something about closing the darn door.

And what I’ve realized over time is that maybe I shouldn’t. While I was preparing supper tonight…at least three, maybe four, different times the front door bounced open and there came a sweet little blue eyed, blonde headed boy bringing his mom flowers. “Flowers” that he found in the yard that made him instantly think of his mom and how she would love them. The sweetest little voice saying “mom I picked these just for you.”

It could have been the enticing smell of the pork loin in the crockpot. Maybe it was the mouthwatering aroma of his favorite homemade hot rolls in the oven. Or maybe the sound of the mixer mixing a batch of gooey banana bars. Or maybe he just really loves his mom. It’s the latter, I’m sure.

Anyway if you needed a sign to slow down and come off autopilot then here it is. There’s little ears listening. And there’s big little hearts full of love that don’t deserve to be crushed.

It takes a crew to keep things moving and boy, have we sure got one.

One to fill.
One to crawl on the planter from box to box to watch the filler.
One to supervise the filler and the crawler.
One to run the {toy} dozer to smooth out the ground.
And one to document it all.

We love this crew and the view. ☀️

• Monday’s with Mady •

Sorry, no video this week. We haven’t slowed down enough to make time for that but she did make some delicious popsicles over the weekend that we want to share.

We’ve been on a smoothie kick lately. Specifically Peanut Butter Banana. It’s a fun summer treat for breakfast, snack, or even dessert. Better yet we know exactly what’s in it.

We had plenty smoothie left over from breakfast so we poured the rest in our popsicle molds and let the freezer do the work.

All you need is

2 cups of milk
1 ripe banana
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 Tablespoon or two of cocoa powder {totally optional but we’re big fans of chocolate here}

Put it all in your blender and let it go to work. We also add a handful of ice cubes to thicken it up and make it extra cold. Pour in glasses or popsicle molds and enjoy!

• field meal season •

The sun’s shining, the fields are drying out, and the weather is just right to get some spraying done.

Field meal season is one of our favorite times of the year. The kids get to run feral, play in the dirt, and catch a ride in whatever piece of equipment is working that day.

Sometimes it’s just sandwiches, sometimes it’s pizza from town, and other times it’s something home cooked.

During the busy seasons it’s not common for all 5 of us to be at the dinner table together so we’ll take a field picnic any day! ☀️

We bought this slick John Deere 4850 this past winter.

She’s not new by any means. In fact, John Deere only produced these workhorses from 1983 to 1988. If anything she’s a classic. In 1983 you could expect to spend just over $81,000 to purchase one brand new.

If you were to buy a brand new John Deere today, comparable in size, you could easily expect to spend over $200,000.

The best part of running “old” equipment is that we can usually work on it ourselves if there’s a problem. The newer the tractor, the more the technology, the more difficulty troubleshooting without a technician, and a much more expensive repair.

These old beauties don’t require a whole lot if you keep up with every day maintenance. They look and sound pretty mean, too!

Thank you Lord for a beautiful week to get crops in. What a privilege it is to be stewards of this land.

• the face behind the posts and photography •

This one’s for the farm wives.

You’re not going to find me behind the steering wheel of a tractor too often. You won’t typically find me running equipment. And you won’t usually find me chasing cattle.

Believe it or not, I did grow up on a farm driving tractors, feeding cattle, and occasionally helping sort them. I’m fully capable of hopping on nearly every single piece of equipment on our farm and running it like an old pro.

But with each baby we had life became busier at home and these days, outside of my full time job in town, I can usually be found running kids to practices and games. Keeping up with the endless mountains of laundry. Mowing the yard {twice a week lately}. Whipping up sweet treats. Putting together nutritious home cooked meals {and playing Farm DoorDash when needed}. And much more.

It’s easy to feel like my weight isn’t being pulled when I’m not active in the on-site, day-to-day operation. I’m also extremely guilty for joking about “finally being useful” when he does ask for my help.

So farm wife…

I see you jumping in your dusty SUV at a moments notice running parts, snacks, drinks, and kids.

I see you staying up late waiting and praying he makes it home safely.

I see you on the highway hazards flashing as you safely move your farmer from field to field.

I see you through every season we encounter and the changes they bring.

I see you. I am you.

Here’s to us. May we continue to hold down the house and stay commited to our home and family during this busy season of our lives. May we remember to give ourselves plenty of grace. May we realize that we can’t do it all. And may we always remember just how valuable we really are.

• Mondays with Mady •

School’s out for the summer so we kicked it off with a hot dog roast and s’mores right in our front yard.

We’re almost certain that everyone knows how to make a s’more but we love them and had fun making them. We’ll try to be more creative next week!

Brycen prefers his with Reese’s. Weston thinks they’re “nasty” - he’s more of a straight out of the bag marshmallow guy. He’s not a fan of the messiness either. Mady likes hers with Hersheys.

We want to know how you like your marshmallows. Extra toasty, barely toasty, or in between?

Are you a graham cracker base or cookie base? We saw someone make s’mores with Oreos and we think we’ll have to try that next time!

If you send a farm boy with his daddy…

He’ll probably come home covered in dirt. He’ll be stinky. He’ll be stained. His fingers will be grubby. And don’t get me started on his clothes.

If you send a farm boy with his daddy…

He’ll need a snack or two along the way. A cold turkey sandwich will hit the spot. Followed up with a juice box and a cup of applesauce to slurp down and fill his tummy.

If you send a farm boy with his daddy…

He probably won’t want to come home with his mommy. He’ll beg and plead to “pleeeease” stay with daddy. He’ll fight and slide his way out of the car seat until you’re both sweating and you’re trying to decide if you should laugh or maybe even just cry with him.

If you send a farm boy with his daddy…

He’ll fall asleep less than five minutes in to the drive home. He’ll dream about four wheelers, tractors, cows, and pickups. He’ll smile in his sleep and let out a giggle. He’ll need a bath, of course, but you’ll let him sleep as long as he needs.

If you send a farm boy with his daddy…

He’ll look like he rolled in the dirt. His clothes will need treated and soaked. He’ll likely require a whole bar of soap and a few too many squirts of bubble bath.

If you send a farm boy with his daddy…

He’ll have learned more in those few hours than you can begin to imagine. He’ll have an immune system as strong as a bull. And he and his daddy will have some special memories to share forever.

What a beautiful rainy afternoon to spend in the kitchen!

4.5 dozen cupcakes total {leaving us with plenty to share} have kept us busy.

We had so much fun doing these {and quality control taste testing, of course}.

This round we did just a basic Vanilla with a Whipped Buttercream, Cookies and Cream, and Stuffed Reeses.

Are you a basic cupcake person or an “extra” cupcake person?

Congratulations to the 2024 Graduates!

• Food Friday •

This is one of those meals that I make when it’s been awhile since I’ve been to the grocery store. It’s made with items that are always in our pantry {or fridge}.

It’s a recipe that I just kind of threw together one night and it turned out pretty good. There’s so many things you could switch up in it like adding bacon, veggies, or whatever else you think sounds yummy.

You need beef, potato’s, 2 cans of “cream of” soup {I use whatever I’ve got in my cabinet. Mushroom, chicken, or I’ve even used cheese}, cream cheese, ranch mix, and heavy cream. Easy enough.

The ranch mix packs enough flavor so you really don’t need to add anything else {though I add a little pepper to the beef as it’s browning}.

Adding the potato’s to the browned beef allows them to fry in the little bit of fat that’s left in the pan. They’ll come out golden and slightly crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. The perfect potato for this dish!

This is a one pot meal that’ll feed a crowd and leave your stomach full.

Happy Friday, friends!
