Good afternoon Shoshin Farm Fam. We are looking for a home or homes for these three beauties. The momma had kittens in early May in our neighborhood. The kittens are about 4 pounds and have been fully vaccinated. We'll have them sprayed before adopting out. Momma has already been spayed and is up to date on her vaccines. We would love to keep them, but they are petrified of dogs and are a little leery of our current cats. If you can provide a good home for one or all where they will be indoor only cats, please send us a DM.

Good afternoon Shoshin Farm Fam! We spent a few hours this morning reorganizing a bunch of leftover materials from previous yard projects. Now, cattle panel, pressure treated wood, about a million t-posts, and cement pavers are stacked NEATLY behind the shed. And my back is reminding me I'm, in fact, NOT 25 years old anymore. Boo. Good morning Shoshin Farm Fam! Here is another dish we enjoy. This is quinoa and vegetable with grilled chicken breast and a sauce of Greek yogurt and Sriracha sauce. We used carrots, bell pepper, broccoli, sundried tomatoes, shallots, and diakon radish. We sauteed the vegetables in extra virgin olive oil with minced garlic until slightly soft, then mixed in 1.5 pounds of chicken and three cups cooked quinoa. We used 20oz nonfat plain Greek yogurt and the Sriracha to taste. Yielded 7 servings. Great to freeze and nuke for lunch or dinner.

Good morning Shoshin Farm Fam! About two months ago, we decided to trade our typical American diet of ultra processed foods for a veggie dense, Mediterranean style one. We struggle with our weight and insulin resistance. While Herb's cholesterol panel is amazing, mine is borderline. One of my favorite meals to make is a dense bean salad, inspired by Violet Witchel on TikTok and Substack. Mine varies a little week by week, but is packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats. This week's salad yielded ten 16oz containers that I will eat with two cups of fresh spinach. It contains kidney beans, chickpeas, cucumber, bell pepper, a shallot, carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, pickled turnips, celery, whole milk mozzarella, and a "superseed" chia seed, flaxseed, and hempseed mix. I made a dressing of single source extra virgin olive oil, honey mustard, balsamic vinegar, and dried oregano, marjoram, and thyme. Other weeks I've added green beans and snap peas. You can make this out of your favorite vegetables, maybe add fruit or an additional protein source like chicken, tuna, salmon, or tofu.

Welcome to Shoshin Farm

Our backyard farm started in 2016 with five types of vegetables in three galvanized tubs. Today, over 20 vegetables and herbs are rotated annually in a 700ft2 raised bed plot that’s bordered by a native perennial pollinator garden and patrolled by friendly chickens. Shoshin Farm is a Certified Wildlife Habitat, a Monarch Waystation, and registered with both the Cincinnati Zoo’s Pollen Nation and the National Pollinator Garden Network.

In Zen Buddhism, word “shoshin” is the beginner’s mind, free of preconceptions. We felt this a fitting name for our microfarm as we embrace this philosophy in all aspects of our lives. Operating Shoshin Farm is a continuous cycle of learning, blundering, creating, and evolving.
