Here's a recipe for Chinese steamed shrimp buns:
Ingredients:
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp yeast
- 220ml warm water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 300g fresh shrimp, peeled and chopped
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1/4 tsp MSG
Instructions:
1. To make the dough for the buns, mix the flour and yeast together in a large bowl.
2. Add water and oil to the flour mixture and mix well until it forms a soft, pliable dough.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for at least 30 minutes.
5. While waiting for the dough to rise, prepare the shrimp filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped shrimp with shallots, garlic, sugar, soy sauce, pepper, and MSG. Mix well.
6. Knead the dough again and divide into small portions of 30g each.
7. Flatten each portion into a thin, round wrapper using a rolling pin or a pastry roller.
8. Place a spoonful of shrimp filling in the center of each wrapper and pleat the edges to seal the bun.
9. Place the buns on parchment paper or greased bamboo steamer and steam for 10-15 minutes until cooked through.
