Some days are surprising, and wonderful. This was one of those days! Today I hosted NRCS agents from across East Tennessee on one of my farms and got to share my story; my “why I do this tale”. I got to share my passion for land preservation, for local agriculture, and for revitalization of native landscapes.

I was supposed to discuss management strategies I use that incorporate best practices for both honeybees and beef cattle, but I really discussed my love of place. My family has called Jefferson County home for generations. I was so proud to share that story today. They allowed me to take them on a journey of my vision for what community agriculture can be. I hope they learned as much from me as l learned meeting all of them.

I even got to throw in my favorite quote from my favorite author.
“I stand for what I stand on.” Wendell Berry.
