So I do not usually get a chance to shout out and support other small businesses but I do feel that supporting each other and local is the best way to go. First I want to say if you are in Oskaloosa and need a drink, great atmosphere, and good easy feed then my FIRST friends after moving up here has the place for you! Full Bloom Brewey is the place to go. I have watched and been so happy to watch not only John and Kristen's family grow but to watch their dreams come true in this project. Go check them out! You can say we sent you. Second have you ever been to Pella IA, and not during the crazy Tulip Time? Well let us give you a few places to check out! 1) Iris Coffee, has Amazing coffee and non coffee drinks. They roast their coffee on site in this charming little shop. We do love us some Iris Coffee on the farm. 2) The Bread Board! Where do I start?!!! Fresh made bread and pastries every day, great people and service, and simple food that you can NOT help but love. 3) Love to read or just find that unique gift? The Curiosity Books is the place to go. We love this place. So many different things to see and find, even ones you didn't know you were looking for. Can't find a book or game? The staff will gladly help you either order it or tell you where to find it if they can't get it in. We have already started our Christmas shopping here. 4) Love a good glass of wine but only want from this state? The Wijn House owner and staff (sometimes me 😬) can help you find that perfect bottle. Also they not only have a changing weekly tasting list but they pair with other businesses to do different classes or events. They also host a monthly book club. 5) Last but not least on our list is this wonderful little shop The Cottage Candle Shop. Way to many wonderful scents to choose from, but the shop only gets better! WAIT WHAT you Candle lovers say!! Each candle enclosure is handmade from concrete but after you have burnt down your candle, just bring the cute candle holder back and get it refilled (I think any scent but don't hold me to that) for half price. Not only once but up to 3-4 times!!! Newport Farm loves supporting local and not that we have a huge reach but we want to share some favorite's with you incase you are in the area and need to find a unique place, with great atmosphere, the best customer service, great gifts you will not find anywhere better, or just something to treat yourself (maybe make you forget that goat smell 😀 😊). Local love helps keep us all going!! Sorry photos are all over the place 😅 and I don't have any of Full Bloom, plus that's only downstairs of Curiosity but you can see why we love these places!

So as weather changes a bit more we use the time of year and nice weather to prepare for not only winter but years to come. Did you know the best time to plant new trees is actually the fall? The trees are in dormant stage which means when Spring comes they are ready to root instead of starting the roots in a pot then having to re-establish their roots when getting planted in the spring, causing a higher chance of loss. So when the crazy wife finds trees she loves and ones to restart the orchard on the husband's family farm the husband comes home to yet ANOTHER project on the to do list. The Bees are still pollinating the flowers in places I didn't plant but I'm also not going to complain. Snow fence is going in as the critters enjoy the weather and a few leftovers from the summer/garden. (Bees and big group of chickens also got treats. We just have a few older hens and a "hen" that is not what we purchased separated to keep Hank our rooster and Bob Ross the not-a-hen from fighting) Shout out to my husband for going with EVERY crazy idea I drag home.

Mid-October and our garden is still going strong. The green bean vines are over flowing, peas are still plumping up, Brussel Sprouts are full as all get out, and broccoli is coming to small heads.

Always crazy times on the farm. Finishing up 1 season and preparing for the next is exhausting Zoey and Charlie say. Bring in some of the final garden harvest, apples came in like crazy and are about done for this year, got another farm truck, placed the smaller greenhouse up close for the winter. Critters are taking in the last days of comfortable weather wherever they can. Humming birds are in full flight around here.
