ORANGE CAYENNE

This fiery orange pepper is slender and long and supremely versatile as it can be dried as a powdered spice or tossed into stir fry and sauces. Enjoy with caution!

RED CAYENNE

The Red Cayenne pepper is best known for its ability to increase the heat level and enhance the flavor of food. In addition to enhancing flavor, the Red Cayenne pepper provides numerous nutritional benefits, including high levels of nutrients and health-improving compounds. CUBANELLE PEPPER

Also known as “Cuban pepper”, the Cubanelle is a variety of sweet pepper commonly used in Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican cuisine. Many cooks prefer it to bell types. Sweet Cubanelle peppers can some times be slightly hot, but with only a touch of heat. This 6-8-inch pepper is prized for its sweet, mild flesh, rich flavor, and pretty colors. The thin-walled pepper is especially suited for quick cooking and has a low water content.

SHISH*TO PEPPER

Shish*to peppers are a sweet, thin-skinned, and mildly spicy Japanese variety of chili pepper. Their name translates to "lion pepper" in Japanese, referencing the pepper's tip crease that resembles a lion's head. Appearance and taste: Bright green, wrinkled, and finger-length, shish*to peppers are usually eaten green but can also be eaten when red. They have a citrus flavor and are more savory than sweet, though about 1 in 10 can be surprisingly spicy.

BANANA PEPPER

We’re thrilled to offer this classic sweet wax pepper that has been grown by generations of gardeners. Sleek, tapered fruit reaches 6-7 inches long, 2 inches wide and a translucent ivory color when immature, ripening quickly to stunning red-orange. Superb pickled or stuffed, in salads, and more. A treasure!

Have a great day!

Yep it’s cold! Definitely not what we like around here!

Today we highlight a couple more varieties of peppers we are growing this season. If you would like any starts shoot us a message. We have limited starts available.

SUGAR RUSH PEACH PEPPER

An amazing combination of a fruity flavor with some added fire! A sumptuous snacking pepper, Sugar Rush Peach is by far the most fun pepper to eat. The long, peach-colored fruit is packed with loads of super sweet, tropical flavor, and the seeds bring a smoky, complex heat that creates a wild flavor experience unparalleled in any pepper we have tried. This exciting new open-pollinated variety was bred by hot pepper prodigy Chris Fowler of Wales. Chris credits this amazing variety as being a happy accident courtesy of adventurous pollinating insects buzzing between various varieties of Capsicum baccatum, or Aji peppers. The result: super early, high yields of these exquisite sweet-hot peppers.

PUMPKIN SPICE JALAPEÑO

This bright pumpkin-orange colored variety is a lightly spicy and super eye-catching fruit. Ornamental and extremely prolific, well adapted to hot climates. This pepper stands out for its supremely fruity, sweet flavor. The pumpkin-colored fruit ripens early and is a favorite in our kitchen. These beauties are perfect for stuffing, pickling, or roasting!

Seed starting in 16 days!!

OLD GERMAN TOMATO

The Old German tomato is a large, award-winning heirloom variety that originated in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley Mennonite community in the mid-1800s. Southern Exposure Seed Exchange released it commercially in 1985. 85 days. Indulge in one of these treasured heirlooms and experience the true meaning of pleasure! Routinely weighing in at over a pound and a half, Old German was one of the largest fruit in our trials. It is both delicious and beautiful with succulent, meaty fruit and golden-streaked, reddish skin. Indeterminate.

BIG RAINBOW TOMATO

(Solanum lycopersicum). The fruit are huge, weighing up to 2 pounds, delicious and sweet tasting. These tomatoes are very striking sliced, as the yellow fruit has neon red streaking through the flesh. An heirloom preserved by members of Seed Savers Exchange.

BRANDYWINE YELLOW TOMATO

76 days. (Indeterminate) [IN heirloom.] Same great flavor as pink-fruited Brandywine. Large, slightly ribbed beefsteaks are sweet and tangy - our grower prefers it to pink Brandywine! Fruits keep well. Large potato-leaf foliage provides medium fruit cover.

So there you have it! Plus we have a Surprise Tomato but will not be posting about it. You will have to see for yourself when you come grab your maters from the greenhouse.

Stay warm! Hold on, spring weather is right around the corner!!!

Cheers

The next 7 days are going to be a roller coaster. Enjoy the brief warm up Friday/Saturday. Sunday brings the next switch. It will get bitter cold for 4-5 days but hold on because after that we should be back to average temps!

We continue to get things ready for our seed starting extravaganza in a few weeks. Today we are highlighting 3 unique varieties. These are all dwarf varieties that do not need the same space as traditional varieties. They are perfect for people who have raised beds or have large container growing systems. So here they are 😎

DWARF TOMATO SNAkEBITE

80 days, dwarf — The rugose, regular leaf plants of 'Dwarf Snakebite' grow from three to four feet tall and produce four to sixteen ounce, pink colored, oblate shaped fruit that are tasty, tangy and tart. A very nice slicing tomato.

DWARF TOMATO BRANDYFRED

75 days, dwarf — 'BrandyFred' is a high yielding, rugose, potato leaf dwarf variety that produces smooth, oblate, purple fruit that range between ten to sixteen ounces and possess a rich, well-balanced, delicious flavor..

DWARF TOMATO STONY BROOK HEART

Indeterminate. 80 days, dwarf — The rugose, potato leaf plants of 'Dwarf Stony Brook Heart' are quite compact, reaching thirty-six to forty-eight inches tall, and are very productive. The distinctly heart-shaped tomatoes are a beautiful scarlet color with distinct jagged golden stripes. Most fruit run between six to ten ounces but they can reach one pound or more. The meaty flesh has a classic tomato flavor with an initial burst of sweetness, making them very versatile, perfect for sauce, paste, preserving and slicing.

Have smaller spaces? Give these a try you will not be disappointed 😊

Happy 🐫 day! We cool down again until the weekend slight warm up with more craziness in store next week!

Today we break out the rest of our cherry variety lineup. We have planted these guys every year since they are such great producers!

BLACK CHERRY:

Black Cherry' plants are vigorous and very productive. Their bite-sized fruits are cherry shaped but have dark, purplish coloring similar to the famous 'Cherokee Purple' tomato. Pop one in your mouth and you will be rewarded with a wonderfully complex flavor palate that is fruity, balanced, very rich, sweet, and intense. 'Black Cherry' has become a very popular variety and is worthy of your garden space.

SWEETIE CHERRY:

This tomato has succulent clusters of fruits that grow up to 1" in diameter, weigh about an ounce, and despite their small size, have an extremely high sugar content... 12-14%. These are like the open pollinated version of their "super sweet" cousin. Being indeterminate, these plants need lots of trellising, but will give you a heavy, continuous harvest until frost in the Fall/Winter or the heat gets them in the Spring/Summer. These are on the more heat tolerant side, and can handle nighttime temperatures into the mid 70's and still put out fruit. Sweeties are a fast grower, and can give you your first harvest as early as 50 days.

CHADWICK CHERRY:

The delicious, sweet flavor makes this 1-ounce cherry popular with home gardeners. Large vines set huge yields and are disease-resistant. Developed by the late horticultural expert Alan Chadwick. He sure had a winner with this one!

If interested in any of these starts, give us a shout and we will put you on the list. Seed starting is right around the corner!

Today we continue to highlight our tomato varieties 😎Every year we start maters we grow every season and are fan favorites!

CHEROKEE PURPLE

An old Cherokee Indian heirloom, pre-1890 variety; beautiful, deep, dusky purple-pink color, superb sweet flavor, and very-large-sized fruit. Try this one for a real old-time tomato flavor. Our favorite dark tomato and one of our best-selling varieties.

GERMAN PINK (My Favorite Mater 🤙)

One of the tomatoes that originally ignited the heirloom movement in America, this variety originated in Bavaria. It made its U.S. debut in 1883, brought here by Michael Ott, a great-grandfather of Seed Savers Exchange co-founder Diane Ott Whealy. The luxuriant potato-leaf plants give high yields of 1- to 2-pounds, with nearly seedless meaty fruit. The prestigious Slow Foods USA Ark of Taste enthused: “a full sweet flavor, even floral, and...tender skinned.” This gorgeous pink fruit is extremely versatile, excellent for canning and freezing but also for slicing and juicing. This one is sure to become a favorite in your garden!

These go quickly so if you would like to get some of these wonderful starts let us know asap 😊

Happy Monday! Ah the sun!!! We warm up a bit then cool down and then back to normal temps for a bit before the next swing in temps next week.

Today we are introducing our sauce/salad/salsa mater lineup. If you see something you like shoot us a message and we get you down.

JERSEY DEVIL

This American heirloom variety was made popular many years ago by Tomato Seed Co of Metuchen, NJ. that is no longer in business. Abundant crops of 5-6" long, tapered, bright red, paste tomatoes with pointed end, (looks like a pepper) few seeds and very good taste. Takes a long time to set fruit but it's worth the wait. This variety is well respected as a meaty sauce tomato that is a good choice for making salsa.

BANANA LEGS

Very prolific and long season tomato plant producing 4-inch long, bright yellow, meaty, banana-shaped tomatoes with light banana-colored striping and a slight ni**le on the end. Sweet fruity flavors. Great for slicing into salads. Good sauce tomato. A low acid tomato.

SAN MARZANO

The San Marzano tomato is an Italian plum tomato variety known for its quality and flavor, particularly for canning. They are thinner and more pointed than Roma tomatoes, with thicker walls and fewer seeds. San Marzano tomatoes are less acidic and sweeter than other varieties, and are said to have a mild flavor and firm flesh. They can be eaten raw or cooked, and are often used for sauces, juices, and canned coulis.

AMISH PASTE

Solanum lycopersicum). Many seed savers believe this is the ultimate paste tomato. The giant, blocky, Roma-type tomatoes have delicious red flesh that is perfect for paste and canning. It has a world-class flavor.

Okay folks there ya go! Have a great day and stay tuned for tomorrow’s varieties!

Add you to the list. Once again we only have a set amount of starts so if you would like one or two just let us know so we can mark it down!!

Another new variety which we are extremely excited about is:

ORANGE JAZZ

Famous for its rich, sweet flavor! These beautiful beefsteaks are fruity tasting, justly earning top marks in our tomato-tasting trials. We noted a sugary sweet and complex flavor with a hint of peach. Plants require sturdy staking, as they are large and wildly productive. A real favorite and a wonderful variety for home and market gardens. From Fred Hempel of Artisan Seeds.

Have a great day!

Well we lucked out and only got a couple inches of snow and we should hit 40 degrees today to melt it!!!!
Hang in there folks!

Today we highlight 2 new varieties that we are starting in a few weeks. Although we prefer pink, purple, orange and yellow maters, many people like a good ol red mater so we sought out a couple loved sandwhich tomatoes for ya!

ABE LINCOLN TOMATO

Indeterminate - The Abe Lincoln tomato was cultivated in the 1920s in Abraham Lincoln's home state of Illinois. The farmer named it because he wanted gardeners to know they were getting an honest producer with great flavor, one that was reliable to produce all season long. This is a classic variety with good acidity and regular tomato leaves, making it the perfect slicer tomato. Plants will produce normal amounts of fruit but will overcompensate in the quality of taste. These are amazing in tomato sauce, soup, pasta, or homemade ketchup.

IVAN TOMATO

Indeterminate. The Ivan Tomato is one for the history books! Cultivated by a Missouri family for years until they were no longer able to farm. The Ivan Tomato has been picked up by a group determined to rescue this imporant heirloom from possible extinction. It is a meaty tomato with an old-fashioned flavor. These plants grow tall, upwards to 10 feet and will produce harvests that blow you away! With substantial support these plants will fill your harvest baskets until they are spilling over!

If interested in any of these starts shoot us a message and we add you to the list of starts!

Happy Friday! Here comes the snow again 🤨

We have a busy weekend getting the seed starting room all set and doing inventory on everything for the 2025 season.

Today we highlight 2 tomato varieties that we grew
Last year for the first time that was a huge success.

MUSHROOM BASKET

Solanum lycopersicum). A favorite variety, introduced from Russia. One of the most beautiful and attractive tomatoes we have ever grown. It is very ribbed and pleated, but otherwise very uniform, large and perfect looking. It’s a vibrant watermelon-pink color with cream-colored speckles that really make the fruit sparkle and glisten. These short, indeterminate plants produce a large mass of fruit in a thick clustered area in the center of the plant. The flavor is sweet and mild; the flesh is firm and the seeds are very few.

WATERMELON BEEFSTEAK

was collected from West Virginia, where it had been grown for almost 100 years by a few mountain families, by the famed seedsman George Gleckler who introduced it in 1958. This is the true Watermelon Beefsteak. Our TomatoFest organic tomato seeds produces indeterminate, regular-leaf tomato plants that yield HUGE, 1-2 lb., pink, beefsteak tomatoes that are lightly scalloped and loaded with deliciously rich and complex, old-time tomato flavors.

If interested in any of these starts please let us know and we will add you to the list. Please remember we have a set amount of starts.

Have a great day and prepare for that white ❄️!
