This little squirt's mom doesn't like her for who knows why. She gets barely enough milk, and is always hungry. I hoped her mom would learn to tolerate her, but it just didn't happen. Can't even get her to hold still on the stanchion without tying her down. I'm guessing baby has sharp teeth, but not sure.
Baby gets enough to live, play, and grow, but just wasn't growing as fast as the others. Today, I gave in and checked to see if she would take a bottle at 3 weeks old. I did not expect her to.
Surprise surprise, she DID take the bottle, and downed it like a pro! So I now sacrifice a pint of precious goat's milk every morning to supplement what she gets from her mom.
Little thing didn't know what to do with a full belly in this pic. She promptly groomed a little, laid down, and sunned while looking like the most satisfied thing on this planet. LOL

I apparently need a guard cat now while I'm milking. She sits there every day and night while goats are in the stanchion...

I apparently need a guard cat now while I'm milking. She sits there every day and night while goats are in the stanchion, waiting either for her frothy cream or a mouse to pop out of the back of the feed bin. Either way, she is a very happy kitty!

It just kills me to see flowers on all the bushes and fruit trees...just in time for a very hard 2 day freeze. :-( Can Missouri weather PLEASE be nice for once??? Seriously? I want peaches off my trees for the first time in years!
At least I can cover my peas and rhubarb plants so they don't die. I hope.

My pride and joy this year. Two baby girls from great genetics, that will hopefully make a person or two happy goat owners in a few months.
I've had to scale back my goats a lot thanks to health issues, but I've compensated by going registered, and these two are truly beautiful! Their mamas are running neck and neck on milk production, at nearly a gallon a day, and that with relatively low protein feed only once a day. I'm going to up their protein here through the next week and see what they can really do!
Something tells me making mozzarella is in my near future!

Oh, and I have fresh goat's milk for sale in Greenfield, Mo, should you wish to try it! $3/half gallon. First quart is a free sample!

It's that time again. It's time to clean out all the shelters, and today it was the brooder house.
I'd been letting the hens stay in it during the winter for warmth, and they'd been laying lots of eggs, but now it's time to convert it back to a chick house, and Floppy was very disapproving of losing her nest!

I swore last year that I would never incubate duck eggs again, because the little chicks are so nasty in the brooder box...

This year: Well I can't let them freeze and go to waste! *facepalms*
So 24 eggs just went in the incubator. If anyone wants to buy muscovy ducklings in 35 days, holler! They're ok for eggs, and amazingly delicious meat! A cross between beef and turkey!
And they have such awesome personalities! No quacks! Just chirbles to ducklings and excited tail wags and voiceless haughs when they're greeting you. LOL

Warning! If you got the big incubator from temu, keep your ears open! There is a tiny gap in the threads on the turning rods that lets a baby foot get sucked in between it and the plastic. I heard the turner kick in and a chick started yelling. I had no reason to believe there would be any trouble, but checked anyway, and I'm so glad I did. I had to use a flathead screwdriver and pry the plastic side away from the rod so I could remove the poor thing's badly skinned foot. What a way to start a life! Poor baby, I sure hope it turns out ok!
On the bright side...14 baby chicks out of 20 eggs isn't bad! Easter egger daddy barnyard mix ftw!

Once again, I have tons of eggs for sale in Greenfield! $2.50/doz washed or unwashed for incubating barnyard mix birds!

60lbs of boneless meat off 7 cornish cross...something tells me we got to them waaay late. *facepalms*
Here's hoping we can get to the next batch a lot sooner! Poor birds!
