Teaching and sharing my passion for growing beautiful elegant kitchen gardens is my business! Yesterday I got to help Gretchen plant the garden she had always wanted in her beautiful outdoor living spaces. I brought in and together we planted — culinary herbs 🌿 like Lemon Thyme, Italian Parsley, Curly Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Lavender; Winter greens of Rainbow Chard, Collard Greens, Kales (Red Russian my favorite!); and also Fennel.
Enhancing Gretchen’s beautiful yard with food gardens was simply done using existing pottery and garden areas.
Using the spaces she already had in her yard we converting regular plants to EDIBLE and ELEGANT vegetables and herbs! It’s affordable and most of all… such a JOY to garden together on a chilly Fall day in Las Vegas. The sun shone brightly, the clouds returned and we got sprinkled on while it was sunny!
This garden is going to thrive quickly, because I chose all “Cool Season” edibles that grow well in the colder temperatures. It’s such a joy to bring food and gardening to your home! 🏡
I also got to meet the “Guardians of the Gardens” Bella and Blaze. The cutest!
Would you like to start a food garden? Thinking about starting in Spring? NOW is the time to start planning.
We can begin working on it together now so you are ready to plant 🌱 for Spring which is February / March for Las Vegas! Call or text me at 702.439.0860 so we can begin planning your kitchen gardens!

Tip Tuesday! Topic: Control of Bad Bugs
This summer I had a garden bed that must have been infested with destructive bugs. While I searched daily for horn worms I couldn’t find them. I didn’t see “rolly polly” bugs either. Perhaps moths flew in and out. Everything I planted got destroyed right down to bare branches. So frustrating! Has this happened to you??
One of my last resorts when this happens is letting the garden bed stay empty for a few weeks and sprinkling the organic, food grade quality Diatomaceous Earth into the soil. “DTE”
It looks like baking flour. Please only use this when you have tried everything else (and if you want to know that send me a message!). Because all insects — good and bad — are affected. Once bugs crawl through it they will die shortly afterwards. So watch out because if it’s ladybug 🐞 or Praying Mantis season, please don’t use DTE!
Here’s that garden bed. Sprinkled DTE on the surface a few days ago. Today I’m going to rake it into the soil a few inches below the surface.
It’s not as effective is wet. So reapply after your irrigation runs or you water the garden.
Hopefully whatever has destroyed my plant 🌱 all summer long will be gone. Helps that weather is colder too!
Happy Gardening and please post your questions in the comments below!

Adventures abound at Hopewell Mine homestead building! True friendships always reconnect — and once again Jodi Paige @virgincheese and I mastermind on … growing your own food! We walked the property as I began to envision all the AMAAAZING outdoor features of Jodi & John’s property on the edge of Clarkdale, Arizona.
With Sedona’s gorgeous red rocks shining in the distance I learned about the Miner’s Tents for campers, horse pastures, pond, trellised vegetable gardens (Yah that’s my project!!!) and trees and edible gardens surrounding the home on all sides. Of course that’s my project, too!
So excited to see the VISION and be part of making this all come true!!! Under big blue skies of the Verde Valley. Jodi let’s DO THIS!
Learning to be Earth 🌍 stewards begins here — discovering the wonders of how plants bring food. Caring for a garden, community and JOY in Nature! Yesterday we planted the Fall garden at North Las Vegas elementary school. Thank you to AMAZON leaders who are dedicated to community service. When the community supports the children it’s proven that it raises self esteem. They see that the world beyond their classroom CARES. 💕🏡🌱🌍 As the wonders of Science, Health and Nutrition come to life in a school garden…the biggest growth is in the minds and heart of these children. Monday Motivation!
Have a dream? A hope? A plan?
Do It TODAY. Take the first step!
15 Years ago I saw beautiful gardens thriving in desert landscapes. Colorful flowers and luscious food gardens during tours of the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas 🌱👩🌾.
I was hooked! I took a class. Bought a book (or 10! 😂). Took more classes. Met horticulture experts on gardening in the Mojave Desert. Took more classes.
Baby steps lead to BIG LEAPS!
All the flowers 🌸 🌺 in this video I grew in gardens all over Las Vegas - gardens of food and flowers. Most of these flowers are edible flowers!
Move your schedule around TODAY. Make time for your passions and dreams. The JOY you feel will fuel everything else you do in life. Carpe diem!
😀🎉🌎💦🌱👩🌾🌿🥬🍅🍋
What's growing in your garden?🌿 Lovely lemongrass with flowering squash blossoms.
How FUN for your family to go right out your back door and into a garden full of fresh summer veggies!
🌱The Spann family has enjoyed fresh vegetables year round for 2 years now. As Dr. Candace Spann says, "Yes, it lowers our grocery bills. Most importantly, I know the food I give my family is healthy, pesticide-free and all organic. We even compost now!" Here's a tour through a big summer garden full of roma tomatoes, zucchini, spaghetti squash, basils, lemongrass, onions, garlic, lavender, strawberries and yellow pear tomatoes!

Today was an exciting day in one of my client’s gardens. I added a lots of tomato plants to kick off Spring planting. To open up space I pulled out cool season vegetables that didn’t produce this year — yes, that happens sometimes!
Like the Brussel Sprouts. 😀
Three beds were filled with tomatoes. They can be added around winter vegetables still growing strong like lettuces, garlic, peas and carrots. By the time the tomatoes are full size those winter vegetables will be done producing. So it’s a wonderful way to make the most of your kitchen garden from season to season!
This gardener wants to make tons of tomato sauce this summer and today’s tomato planting should produce plenty for sauce making!

Planting a strawberry patch! These amazing 3rd graders learned about how strawberries grow, calculating how many can be planted per square foot and per row, while creating their school’s brand new strawberry patch! A part of their garden that lasts for years to come — great times learning in the school garden!
