It was a beautiful day for the Dayton Air Show! Our proximity to DAY means you always get a show, even if you aren’t on the flight line. That said, when you are, it’s a day to remember…as it always is at the birthplace of aviation!

In terms of photography, I debated renting a lens I want to buy in order to give it a test run. Time got away from me, and I didn’t feel like lugging my camera, so I just used my iPhone. And. Wow. Even though the 4x is the max telephoto length, the cropped 8x worked great as well.

Sometimes it’s not the lens you want, it’s the one you have in your pocket.

If you’ve been flipping channels and paused on a grilling commercial for , you might have recognized those grill marks. Under the direction of the fantastic , and I had the opportunity to bring another round of grills to life.

While a few seconds of finished footage can take hours of prep, the flow between production and grilling on these shoots is always impressive to watch. Being included over the last four years has genuinely been a privilege. Huge thanks to the team at Ace, especially and , for the continued trust.

Today is a day to pause, remember, and give thanks for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Grateful for the freedoms that allow us to gather, fire up the grill, and welcome summer.

Thank you.

Sunday means with the folks and that means steaks! While Dad is able to get the Summit fired up, these days he leaves the grilling to me. So far, he has yet to complain! I love these nights.

Some days I really miss stills. There’s just something I love about capturing that split second when heat, food, and smoke come together. So, this afternoon, since I was testing a few ideas on the griddle and grill, I did what I missed. I shot some stills!

Today’s theme is the chuck roast. It's capable of a lot more than you think!

Frying makes a mess no matter where you are. The challenge isn’t just what’s in the skillet, it’s everything around it. Even when I fry outdoors (which I try to always do, otherwise the family hates on me), using a kettle or burner usually means the ground underneath is headed for a grease shower.

Enter the Slate. With conductive heat and a cast iron skillet, the griddle becomes an ideal platform for frying. Not only does the surface help maintain oil temperature, it also catches splatter as grease inevitably escapes the pan. An added bonus: the griddle doubles as a warmer for cooked food.

As the egg rolls come out of the oil, they rest on a sheet pan fitted with a wire rack placed directly on the griddle. Even with that burner turned off, the surface stays warm from adjacent burners, helping keep everything hot and crisp.

While a griddle isn’t the most fuel-efficient heat source, what it lacks in efficiency it makes up for in convenience and control.

Fill egg roll wrappers with your favorite filling and seal. Fry in 350°F oil for about 1 minute per side, until golden brown. That’s it. And oh, no mess!

Our Easter dinner came a day early! Of course, we had a few hams, but I just had to add a rotisserie prime rib into the mix. No one left hungry!
