Three weeks ago, I started a new position with Erin's Angels of CNY, a nonprofit I had been volunteering with for several months. I was so moved by the work they do to feed and protect children in our community that I knew I wanted to do more.

You see, I grew up facing food insecurity. That’s a formal way of saying I didn’t always know when—or if—I’d get my next meal. There were nights I went to bed hungry. That experience shaped me, and it’s why this mission hits so close to home.

Yesterday, I received my first paycheck in this new role. After taking care of bills, one of the first things I did was join the Erin’s Angels Smile Club :) , a monthly giving program that helps feed kids in Central New York who are facing the same struggles I once did.

I chose to give $11/month. Why $11? Because Erin Maxwell was just 11 years old when she was starved, neglected, and tragically murdered by a family member. Erin will always be 11. Despite everything she endured, she smiled. Her legacy is the heartbeat of this mission.

Hello folks. So if you haven't heard yet I am doing a Facebook birthday fundraiser during hunger action month. I am trying to raise $500 to help 's Angels of CNY feed children facing food insecurity. I am 272 into a $500 goal. We need $228 more dollars for 228 more squats. We have one week left. I am doing one weighted squat at 1-Up Wellness for every dollar donated to help feed hungry kids. Last night I did 40 weighted squats to honor the donations from my fifth grade English teacher at Theodore Roosevelt School Margaret Mootz Beck and my UFA Running Machine cross country teammate John Hobika. The action you can take is to click the link, make a donation and make me do more squats before the end of the month.

So today I asked a total stranger for help. This person did not hesitate to offer her assistance. After an IM conversation I learned that she runs a non-profit organization focused on combating child hunger called Erin's Angels. Well if you know anything about me you know that this is a cause I have a passion for. They are also involved in an effort to pass a law to protect children. As someone who grew up afraid for my safety sometimes I beg you to sign this petition.

Folks I need your help again. I know many of you have donated to Feeding America, St. Jude's Hospital and other organizations on my behalf to help kids but this time all I am asking for is a signature on a petition to enact Erin's Law. Actually no, not all, I also need you to share this post so that we can obtain more signatures to protect children.

Erin's Law, named after Erin Maxwell, seeks to establish the class A-I felony of aggravated murder of a child, carrying a sentence of life imprisonment without parole. This law is crucial in addressing cases where children under the age of 14 fall victim to intentional killings during the commission of heinous acts such as r**e, criminal sexual acts, aggravated sexual abuse, or in**st. Additionally, it covers instances of depraved indifference or intentional killing of a child under 14 by individuals legally responsible for their care.

The passage of Erin's Law is not just about legal repercussions; it is about sending a clear message that our society will not tolerate violence against our most vulnerable members. It is about ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law and that justice is served for the innocent lives lost.

By repealing provisions of murder in the second degree that mirror certain aspects of aggravated murder of a child, Erin's Law closes critical loopholes and strengthens our legal framework to protect children from harm.
