Despite looking pretty unassuming from the outside, this Monterey Park restaurant provides delicious food with large family style portions. Their xiao long bao is flavorful, and they also offer a number of other rice, noodle, and dumpling dishes as well. (Don't sleep on that Taiwanese popcorn chicken though.) If you're in the neighborhood, get here early to avoid the rush, since it seems to get packed pretty quick. (Monterey Park, CA -- P P Pop)

If Japanese handrolls are your thing, this restaurant serves up a nice array of flavors between basic and their "Seabutter Original" combo handrolls at three locations around LA. The use of the fresh seafood accompanied by other added elements kept really great balance with each bite that left you wanting more. This is currently my top handroll spot I'd prefer in LA, and they've set the bar high for other places to compare to. (The Bar by Seabutter -- El Segundo, CA)

Seafood, meat, or vegetarian options come in the form of burritos, tacos, wraps, salads, or mixed plates at this seaside grill located on the east side of Kauai. While the food itself tasted fresh with good flavor, it felt like it was on the more expensive side for what you got. Spam musubi is a mainstay in Hawaii, and this food truck dishes them out in three different locations around Kauai. Their deep-fried Spam musubi is definitely something not to be missed, while they also offer a number of other types of musubi, along with poke as well. Quite possibly one of the best pasta dishes I have eaten, coming from an unassuming place tucked away in a small shopping mall in Kaneohe on the northeast side of Oahu. They feature pasta made from local produce sourced in Hawaii, such as Okinawan sweet potato / ube, breadfruit, or moringa leaves. This unassuming storefront right along Kūhiō Avenue packs some really flavorful poke bowls, just a quick walk from Waikiki Beach. In addition to the salmon and ahi poke, they also have some other seafood and tempura bowls, along with handrolls as well. This brunch spot in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu is owned by celebrity chef Lee Anne Wong, and seems to be a popular spot within the community. The brunch options feature a nice blend of Hawaiian, Asian, and American flavors, but the dishes did seem to be a bit on the pricey side. I don't know that I would drive out to this place from another part of the island, but if I'm already in the area, it'd be a place I'd consider. (Koko Head Cafe -- Honolulu, HI)

At the Kaka'ako Farmers Market in Honolulu, there are over 100 vendors to browse through. Among them, this vendor serves up a fantastic porchetta sandwich that has made its rounds on social media. This newer rooftop bar in Pasadena opened recently in the summertime, sitting atop the AC Hotel on East Colorado Boulevard. The ambiance is great, with the San Gabriel Mountains serving as a beautiful backdrop. While the food quality and options were good, the service was a bit hit-or-miss during the meal at times. That still shouldn't dissuade you from giving this place a try, as long as you're ready for the higher price points. (Osa Rooftop -- Pasadena, CA)

Step inside this Japanese handroll bar in Greenwich Village to experience a wide range of handroll options, meticulously prepared by their chefs. The style to serve the handrolls "open-faced" provides opportunity for more fish and visual presentation of their toppings, making each handroll appear to be a work of art.
