‘s 5 stars⭐️ on Yelp are so deserved. Their lamb tibsy (pan roasted strips of lamb summered with garlic🧄 , onion🧅 , butter, and hot spices) was my favorite - so savory and yummy scooped up with injera (Ethiopian fermented flatbread)🤤
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We got their meat (chicken and beef tibsy) and veggie 🌱 (red & yellow lentil) combos🍴and this was great for 4 people👫👫 I haven’t had Ethiopian food in a long time and heard there were a couple good places in Oakland, so happy my sister picked this one out💗 It was really decently priced too (for the Bay), ~$60 for 4 ppl👍🏻

I’ve been loving baked veggies lately🔥They’re easy, yummy, AND have minimal dishes to wash😂 My favorites to bake are cauliflower, mushrooms, and carrots🥕For mushrooms I honestly don’t even need to season them, I like the natural taste 🍄
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I enjoyed the veggies with a side of this huge pork chop I made 👩🏻‍🍳 The pork chop was so thick, it took like 30-40 min to cook through🥵

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Current mood: Costco mushroom pack is amazing so worth 🤑

A disappointing but yummy JBBQ meal at Gyukaku, Oakland 🍖 It was my first time trying jbbq and I honestly liked the flavors - notably garlic 🧄 , sesame seed, teriyaki-esque- and cooking on a open flame grill (versus flat kbbq grill)🔥
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The disappointing part was waiting an hour despite having a reservation ☹️, then sitting and waiting for 2 hours as the meat and appetizers came intermittently😔 I think they were really understaffed so things took much much longer, so while I enjoyed the food I don’t think I’ll be back. Lots of time to catchup with friends though 🤗

Current mood: curious about jbbq places in LA

Have u tried this DELICIOUS Oxtail Stew from Caribbean Gourmet?🌸 🥰 I went after seeing them on the LA Times food feature and they’ve been popping up on SGV Eats😋
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The oxtail falls right off the bone 🍖 , and when combined with the soft rice, veggies 🥬, and plantains, creates this flavor explosion in your mouth 🌈 It’s that good 👍🏻 My mom and I had a hard time stopping ourselves from gobbling it up before the rest of our family got to try it😅 Have to try the jerk chicken next!

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Current mood: salivating while writing this, craving some Caribbean food now 😩

Kona🌺 Part 2: Why Poke Nachos are a Thing
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I first saw it on a menu: 2019 *award-winning* poke nachos🤔 Several restaurants later, we tried it (it took us 3 tries to get seats at this restaurant but that’s another story). Here it came, this volcano 🌋 shaped appetizer with ahi tuna poke 🐟 and seaweed salad beached upon fried wonton chips 🏖
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get it now: it’s the juxtaposition (yeet that SAT vocab 😎) of the crunchy wonton chips with the soft ahi tuna that makes this dish so surprisingly good and MOREISH👌🏻 Maybe it was the island air or the margarita 👀🍹, but I really enjoyed the flavor combination of sweet soy on tuna, creamy mayo, and salty chips ❤️ The dish almost looks like a Korean bingsoo dessert 🍨 with its cone like shape, making it even more delightful - what better way to start a meal than with dessert?💕
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Current mood: the passion fruit beer also slapped✌🏻
