This is a page for fans of the MerryMobile, a vintage ice cream truck that was in operation from the mid 1950's until the early 1970's. My name is Kelly Jones and I live in Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville was home to a MerryMobile franchise, as were Memphis, Dayton, Evansville, and Jackson. I have completed a restoration of an ORIGINAL Merrymobile. I remember them from my childhood on the streets of Louisville in the late 60's and early 70's. About 10 years ago, I purchased several of them from an antique dealer in Kentucky and another a few years later from a friend, Bill Cunningham, in Memphis. The restoration has been long and enjoyable. I am posting some photos of the completed project and some of the ones I bought or were given to me in my photo album. Feel free to view the photos, post on the wall, and share your MerryMobile stories or questions. I also want to thank so many folks who have helped make this possible. Among them are: Bob Hill, from the Courier Journal who helped bring back the memories for so many folks and allowed me to get the word out; Ja Hillebrand and Stock Yards Bank for incurring the costs related to this rebuild; Carlon "Smitty" Smith,who was smart enough to hold onto some of these and sold them to me; My dad, Dean Jones, for all the time and effort he has put into my dream of this rebuild; My mom, Norma McCann, for helping me live the dream on Garden Row; Matt Keith, who took the long ride to Memphis with me; Charlie Owens; Joe Hager; Danny Walsh; Corky Lambert; Bill Cunningham of Memphis, who actually sold us the one that you see here and has been so instrumental in sharing everything MM with me. I made it because of Bill!; Ricky Rowland, a former Merrymobile driver; Bob Thurman; Dee Brown and all the guys at Suburban Wrecker Service; Mike Vetor and Dewey Caldwell, who took such an interest in the project and really made everything come together. Lastly, I thank my daughter Reagan. I promised her I would be done with this by the time she graduated HS and she just graduated this year (2012). I can remember when she was 6 or 7 and use to ask if she could help with hammer in hand. If I left anyone out, it will come to me and I will thank you later!

We are always looking to hear from folks who worked for Merrymobile. Drivers, mechanics, suppliers, everyone!!! We would also enjoy seeing any old photos or memorabilia related to the Merrymobile. Feel free to post them! Some of you may know folks who worked for them. Feel free to contact them as well.

As an example, we found this Merrymobile bowling shirt through a Memphis connection. Who knew they had a bowling team!!?? We were honored to have it!!

Happy 4th to all of our Facebook followers!! Red, white and blue always looks good!! A little tidbit in that the bomb pop was originally invented in the summer of 1955 in Kansas City.
