NEWS RELEASE
August 5, 2024 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Author of “It’s Murder, You Betcha”
to Appear at Taste of Crookston
Jeanne Cooney, humorist and author of the newly released “It’s Murder, Dontcha Know,” will offer a humorous presentation on “life as a middle-aged fiction writer in rural Minnesota” at the Taste of Crookston on Monday, August 12. She will also be available to sign and sell copies of that book, along with her other popular Red River Valley who-done-its. The event will take place at the Eagles Club from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
“It’s Murder, You Betcha,” as well as the previously published “It’s Murder, Dontcha Know” and her Hot Dish Heaven mysteries, are set in the Red River Valley of northwestern Minnesota, home to an array of colorful, Scandinavian-Lutheran farmers. Along with a tongue-in-cheek mystery, each book offers old-time hot dish, Jell-O, and bar recipes. The books may be read as a series, but they can stand on their own too.
Cooney and her books, which are published by North Star Press, have been featured at the Minnesota State Fair and Hostfest, the largest Scandinavian festival in North America. In addition, the books have been highlighted on Twin Cities’ television and radio, as well as in the “Minneapolis StarTribune,” the “Fargo Forum,” and other Midwest newspapers.
Minnesota Public Radio has named Cooney one of a handful of authors to read if interested in Minnesota-based mysteries. Midwest Book Review said of “A Potluck of Murder and Recipes,” “It’s another terrific and original mystery from the pen of Jeanne Cooney and once again documents her complete mastery of the genre.” And Kirkus Review called “It’s Murder, You Betcha,” an “engaging and homey detective series” with “refreshingly funny” characters.
When Cooney, who is represented by Blue Cottage Agency, was asked if she intended to continue to write about the Red River Valley, she said, “You betcha. The people are great there, and the food is pretty darn good too. So I can’t imagine doing anything else, dontcha know.”
