Story time!

Back in the early 2010s I was in my early 20s, no label yet, just managing bands, booking tours, and selling comps outside the Worcester Palladium. I was working with Major League at the time and helping them however I could.

Eventually we went our separate ways, nothing crazy just life.

Not long after that I randomly found Neck Deep on some obscure pop punk blog. I don’t even remember which one, but I instantly knew they were special. At the time I was really into The Story So Far and nothing else was really hitting the same for me. Neck Deep was the first band in a while that gave me that feeling.

So I signed them and we started talking a lot about music, ideas, influences, all that.

One thing I kept thinking about was a song from Major League called “Need I Remind You.” It was acoustic and had a female vocalist going back and forth with the main vocal. I always thought that dynamic hit way harder emotionally, like it felt more real because it sounded like a conversation.

At some point I brought that up to the Neck Deep guys. I was basically like you should try something like that, the back and forth vocal thing can be really powerful.

They ended up taking that idea and writing “A Part of Me.”

Kinda crazy looking back because that song became one of their biggest and most iconic tracks. It all came from just talking about songs and throwing ideas around.

I'm linking the track in case anyone wants to hear the influence.
