Did you know? Many of the heritage breeds we know today arrived in America with early settlers.

Gulf Coast Native sheep adapted to the Southeast as early as the 1500s, and Milking Devon cattle helped power farms during the Revolutionary War era.

These breeds are living pieces of American history.

Tour de Fleece begins on July 4th. I am planning on participating, individually not in a group setting. If you care to join me, please do. We can share progress and photos.

Have set my goals:
1) Spin daily- I've blocked off 2 daily time frames to spin. For the days I have to be away from the farm (Dr. appts.) I will spin in the evening. For home days early afternoon, let's say from 1-3 or 4 before evening chores.
2) Try new fibers – I found some Cheviot which is a new to me spin. Plus located some recycled wool roving which has me excited to try. I've also dug out every box of stashed fiber hiding in the wool room and hope to clear it out. What fiber doesn't sell at Fiber U will be available to spin also.
3) Try new method – Core Spinning. I've tried in the past, going to try to master the method.
4) Have fun! Most importantly enjoy my time at the wheel and make beautiful yarn each spin.

Fiber U has created a challenge weekend for me, I have to change one rest day from July 13th to July 17th. I will be away all day setting up for Fiber U. On the 18th not taking time out, I will be spinning at Fiber U in the afternoon after I teach. Sunday the 19th will remain a challenge day for me. The challenge will be that I will be on a tight schedule with teaching, vending, tearing down and loading up the booth, traveling back home. I will spin at least an hour that day probably before or after teaching.
If you will be at Fiber U and are participating in Tour de Fleece, stop by the booth, introduce yourself and say hi. I will have a small gift for you.
