In honor of National Rose Day we opened our last bottle of 2015 Siren Rose yesterday - the second vintage we ever made. The blend was 49% Mourvèdre / 39% Grenache / 9% Syrah / 3% Petite Sirah. Only 100 cases were produced. Am sure there are no other ones left on the planet. Should you wait 11 years to drink rose? Definitely not, but this was under the best screwcap and having it in my cellar was sentimental. Was kept cold and properly stored for most of it's life so we had that going for us.

However, it was time. Did not expect much, though the color was still pretty similar to the w**e upon release, so I was hopeful it would still be at least drinkable. Damn, were we surprised! It was still vibrant and extremely quaffable. Truly sad to see it go...the bottle emptied very fast.

Had a fairly creamy texture (more like a Tavel), but still plenty of acid to keep you going back for more. Lovely bright berries, citrus and minerality along with a lengthy strawberry vanilla like finish. I wish I had another bottle to see how much longer it would go. I think if this had been more Grenache based it would not have survived as well. The tannins from the other three grapes have keep it alive. No sign of oxidation at all.

BTW This was our original label, which is one of the prettiest ones in our lineup. They don't really stand up to being plunged in an ice bath though so we move to an etched bottle in 2017.

The takeaways? W**e can be a truly amazing thing. Where did a decade go? 2015 was a very good year. Open those bottles!

The nose is bright and fresh with hints of strawberry, Bing cherry, citrus blossom, and a hint of grapefruit with flavors that carry over onto the palate along with a bright alluring minerality and smooth peach-filled finish that is refreshing and flawless in sophistication. Elegant and bright, but with a Paso punch.

Not only will this be great by the pool all by itself, but is a delightful pairing w**e that will hold up to a myriad of grilled foods and summer salads.

Had a little fun this past weekend! Dove into the library and went back in time to 2013 to see where these w**es were in their life cycle. A big part of the fun in having a cellar. Which one was the winner? The 💯 **ery Cabernet Sauvignon or one of our two blends. What about the magnum?

Well, all of them were still quite drinkable and in a good spot, though I would say they 2013 Testament (fave without food) and the 2013 Cass Cab (fave with the cheese/ charcuterie) had the most balance and life left of the 750ml bottles. The Soul Shaker magnum was the most vibrant and still had several years to go. Super smooth and still quite fruity thanks to the Syrah. Could not complain about any of them. Since from Paso, (and around 14% abv) all still had plenty of fruit and did not show any oxidation.

Since these were some of the first w**es made by Erick it's great to see how well they are aging. If you have any of them left, now is the time to open that bottle!

Our brand new release of our 2019 Ascendance Cab/Merlot (50/50 blend) captures the duality of Spring with the tannic structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the supple fruitiness of Merlot. We don't make this w**e every year, as the grapes have to be just right to create the perfect combination of each varieties best traits. We are excited to be releasing this vintage off into the world. It's just the right w**e for the season - bold, yet with a softness that pairs with the fresher flavors and lighter dishes of Spring.

TASTING NOTES:
This Bordeaux-style blend was long aged, barrel fermented and hand racked for thirty months in 50% French oak barrels. It is luscious, sleek and complex with floral red currant and spice box aromas that lead to layered, concentrated flavors of black cherry, mocha, white pepper, sweet cinnamon and oak that jump from the glass. Velvety-soft, round tannins linger on the mid palate, producing a rich, elegant, dry finish. Enjoy now or be rewarded if allowed to cellar for 2 years or more. Drink now - 2030.
