Our brand new release of our 2019 Ascendance Cab/Merlot (50/50 blend) captures the duality of Spring with the tannic structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the supple fruitiness of Merlot. We don't make this wine every year, as the grapes have to be just right to create the perfect combination of each varieties best traits. We are excited to be releasing this vintage off into the world. It's just the right wine for the season - bold, yet with a softness that pairs with the fresher flavors and lighter dishes of Spring.

TASTING NOTES:
This Bordeaux-style blend was long aged, barrel fermented and hand racked for thirty months in 50% French oak barrels. It is luscious, sleek and complex with floral red currant and spice box aromas that lead to layered, concentrated flavors of black cherry, mocha, white pepper, sweet cinnamon and oak that jump from the glass. Velvety-soft, round tannins linger on the mid palate, producing a rich, elegant, dry finish. Enjoy now or be rewarded if allowed to cellar for 2 years or more. Drink now - 2030.

Well, the groundhog has spoken and it looks like we are in for another 6 weeks of winter. We are trying to look on the bright side of this prognostication and are settling in with another one of our big bold reds to help ward the chill away.

Our Soul Shaker blend was born because of a cold, short vintage that did not give us enough Syrah to make a stand alone wine. You need 4 barrels to use a bottling line and corking 50 cases by hand (600 bottles) was just not an option that we could bear. So, our winemaker Erick Allen, made a bold - soul shaking decision, you could say - to mix our mighty Syrah with what would have been our first Bordeaux blend. The birth of Testament would have to wait another year, but this was a blend created by fate (and Mother Nature). Cabernet & Syrah go great together as the Aussies know and this blend has been a giant hit from its first iteration in 2012 to our latest bottlings.

The blend shifts a bit each vintage but is always mostly Cabernet & Syrah with smidges of Merlot and Petit Verdot to round out the mix. Soul Shaker is one of our boldest wines with seductive aromas of ripe currants, black cherries, pomegranate, cranberry, chocolate, exotic spices, herbs, toasted hazelnut, and hints of roasted coffee. We keep the oak light, so the fruit shines through; however, the Cab and Petit Verdot gives it a backbone and the ability to age for a long time. It is definitely one that will keep you warm at night.

These wines are aged and ready to be enjoyed. Just pop and pour. Pair with a rich stew or medium-rare steak...or just an evening by the fire.

Happy New Year! We can't believe we are already in the year 2026. Decades seem to be flying by. We hope everyone had a great holiday season and enjoyed some amazing bottles to celebrate. With the cold winds of January nipping at us, we are moving into a quieter month of reflection and coziness.

Being a winery, we don't go completely dry in January, so our motto for the month is "Quality over Quantity." To that end, our Wine of the Month is the best-of-our-best - the Testament - our Bordeaux blend. It also happens to be our driest wine - being composed of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc. With a little Petit Verdot and Malbec thrown in to fill out the texture.

The blend shifts a bit each vintage depending on which grape wants to take center stage. We keep the new oak to around 30-35% to enable the amazing fruit to shine. The Testament is our most consistent wine, as blending allows us to hit the perfect flavor profile we desire each year. Though there is always some vintage variability. We could not let International Cabernet Franc Day go by without giving a shout out to our one and only version of this wine. We don't normally make varietal wines, but when we got the chance to make a Cab Franc in 2016, we could not resist. This varietal may not be as famous as its progeny Cabernet Sauvignon, but when crafted correctly it can shine just as brightly. Our home vineyard - Cass Winery - no longer has any Cab Franc on the property, so this is a unique wine, we will never be able to make again. Sadly, we only made 105 cases and there are only about 20 left. The good news is it has many years to go, and is only getting better, so you can get a few spares to age or share.

The Revelator is a bright, savory, medium-bodied wine brimming with deep aromas of pepper, plum, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, lilac and violets, culminating into a mouthwatering finish that lingers. Cab Franc can age a LONG time and this wine is just starting to come into its own. We would definitely recommend giving it some air if you have the time. This GOLD MEDAL winner is the perfect wine to enjoy on these dark, cold night by the fire. It's almost too good to share. The bottle certainly empties out quite fast. Not only will this be great by the fire all by itself, but is a delightful pairing wine that will hold up to a myriad of hearty winter fare.
