Not Your Average Oyster
We are a family owned farm located on Maryland's Eastern Shore. From several generations of grain, to***co and poultry farmers we chose to concentrate on small, quality concentrated crops of mushrooms, herbs, greens, and tomatoes AND pasture raised heritage pork. Our goal is to deliver fresh products 3-4 seasons out of the year while giving you the satisfaction of knowing that we are growing for you the same as we do for our own family.
Our crops are grown both traditionally and in greenhouses (to extend the season where possible). Although not certified organic, we adhere to organic practices and strive to use natural pest and w**d control methods, following the USDA Mushroom Good Agricultural Practices (MGAP).
Behind every good idea - there is often an interesting story. “Not Your Average Oyster” was the product of several, long stressful weeks and little sleep. Late at night and amidst lots of laughter we developed our trademark oyster mushroom logo. Life-long Marylanders, my husband and I have enjoyed on more than one occasion sitting on the tailgate of the truck and eating raw oysters out of the basket. It’s one of our favorite date nights and we are excited to share with you these not so ordinary “Maryland oyster” mushrooms along with Shiitake, Lions Mane, and Chestnut.
Our hogs are raised on open pastures with shelter they are free to enter and exit at will. The heritage breeds raised here primarily Berkshire and Duroc - chosen for their lean meat with good marbling, and healthy, moderately prolific stock. You will often see them rooting on the edge of the woods or enjoying a snack of greens, pumpkins or apples.
