Wine With BBQ A blog that allows me to share insights as I continue to explore two passions: wine & BBQ

🔥🍷 Before there was a modern wine culture in America, there was the Judgment of Paris.

On May 24, 1976, a blind tasting in Paris changed the wine world forever when California wines defeated some of France’s most celebrated bottles. Fifty years later, wine lovers are still talking about it.

As someone who loves pairing wine with great food and barbecue, I appreciate how this event helped open minds to wines from outside the traditional old-world regions and encouraged people to explore new flavors and pairings.

To celebrate the upcoming 50th Anniversary, I’ve created a special collection of Judgment of Paris-themed merchandise for fellow wine enthusiasts.

If you’re serving ribs tonight, don’t stop at the sauce... think about what’s in your glass too 🍷🔥

Great BBQ is all about balance:
🔥 Smoke
🔥 Spice
🔥 Sweetness
🔥 Rich, tender meat

And that’s exactly why Syrah works so well.

Its bold dark fruit flavors stand up to the meat, while its peppery, smoky character feels right at home next to a rack of ribs.

The result? A pairing that’s every bit as satisfying as the BBQ itself.

A lot of people think wine pairing has to be complicated.

It doesn’t 🍷

You don’t need fancy terms.
You don’t need certifications.
And you definitely don’t need to stress about “doing it right.”

Here’s the simple approach:
🔥 Rich food → bolder wines
🔥 Lighter food → crisper wines
🔥 Most importantly? Drink what YOU enjoy

That’s it. Seriously.

Good BBQ. Good food. Good wine.
Keep it simple.

Whether you’re smoking brisket low and slow, grilling burgers for the family, or pairing ribs with your favorite red wine, BBQ is more than food — it’s an experience. It’s weekends outside, laughter around the table, and that first bite that makes all the time at the grill worth it.

Today I’m raising a glass to:

These tacos came out INSANELY good.

I started with a smoked chuck roast… low and slow until it became fall-apart tender. Then I layered in TexMex flavor with fajita seasoning, jalapeños, onions, ranch seasoning, butter, and just enough heat to make every bite bold without overpowering the beef.

And the pairing? A Spanish Garnacha.

The tacos had rich smoky flavor, a little spice, and that deep beefy texture… while the Garnacha brought bold red fruit, vanilla, oak, and just a touch of to***co that worked perfectly with the smoke from the meat.

This is one of those pairings where the food and wine make each other better.

If you’re a fan of TexMex tacos, smoked beef, or Spanish wine… this combo deserves a spot on your list. Check out the recipe below! 👇

And if you try this recipe after watching the video, let me know how it turns out. I definitely want to hear what wine you paired with it too. 🍷🌮

Recipe:

3-pound chuck roast
3 tablespoons of beef fajita seasoning
Hot sauce (preferably with lime flavor element)
1 white onion, sliced
½ white onion diced
1-2 tablespoons of butter
ÂĽ cup pickled jalapeno peppers
1 packet dry ranch dressing
Shredded Mexican cheese
12 Tortillas
12 oz Cheese
Lime wedges

Smoke the chuck roast on a smoker for 2 hours at 225ÂşF
After 2 hours, increase the grill temperature to 275ÂşF
While you wait for your smoker temp to rise, add the sliced white onion to the bottom of a Dutch oven, followed by the smoked chuck roast, ranch seasoning, butter, and pickled jalapeño peppers.
Cover and place back on the grill for 4-5 hours until the beef is fall apart tender. The internal temperature should be in the 205ÂşF range.
Place tortillas on a parchment paper-covered sheet pan. Add the Mexican cheese to each tortilla. Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for about 6-7 minutes.
Fill the cheesy tortillas with the beef and garnish with diced white onion, fresh cilantro, and lime wedges.

Pizza night usually means beer…
but wine deserves a seat at the table too 🍷

Here’s the fun part:
Red AND white can work with pizza — it just depends on the vibe you’re going for.

🍷 Chianti brings bright acidity that loves tomato sauce.
🥂 Sauvignon Blanc keeps things crisp and refreshing alongside melted cheese and greasy slices.

So honestly?
There’s no wrong answer here.

This was available for tasting at my local wine shop. Says sparkling rose’ but honestly, a little flat. Also a bit on the sweet side. Probably not gonna buy it again.

Let me know if you’ve ever had this or your opinion on canned wine as a whole. 👇

Growing up, I hated meatloaf.

Dry. Flavorless. Just not it.

But this version? Completely changed my mind.

Here’s what went into it:

• 2 lbs ground beef (80/20)
• 1/2 green pepper, diced
• 1 small onion, diced
• 1 cup breadcrumbs
• 3/4 cup ketchup
• 1/4 cup whole milk
• 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
• 3 cloves garlic, minced (optional)

Smoked over hickory until it hits 155° internal… then finished with a glaze:

• 1/2 cup ketchup
• 1/4 cup monk fruit sweetener (or brown sugar)

The result? Juicy, smoky, slightly sweet—and honestly addictive.

And here’s where it gets interesting…

I paired it with a Pinot Noir rosé 🍷

It’s a beefy dish with a moist, sweet flavor, so the rosé actually holds up to the bold texture—while the lighter Pinot characteristics complement that sweetness without overpowering the dish.

👉 Rich meets refreshing
👉 Sweet meets subtle fruit

It just works.

This might officially be the meal that changed my mind about meatloaf.

Save this for your next smoke session—and tell me what you’re pairing with it 👇

Happy National Drink Wine Day 🍷🔥

Yes… even with BBQ.

Especially with BBQ.

If you’re firing up the smoker tonight, here’s what’s in my glass:

🥩 Brisket + Bold Cabernet
🍖 Ribs + Zinfandel
🍗 Smoked Chicken + Rosé
🌭 Sausage + Syrah

Beer might get all the backyard hype… But wine? Wine is the secret weapon.

Raise a glass to smoke, fire, and full pours.
