Yarra Valley Smaller Wineries As you drive through the sweeping vineyards and rolling hills of the Yarra Valley, you can not help but feel a sense of growing curiosity.

Then you find yourself driving towards a cellar door or vineyard that you have never visited, but instinct tells you it was well worth the diversion from your usual w**e-tour route. It is here you discover for yourself the hidden secrets and pure delight of the smaller w**eries of the Yarra Valley region. Family-owned and run, these unassuming w**eries offer a very different experience and it’s not uncommon for the smile who greets you at the door to be that of the w**emaker or vigneron whose creation you are about to savour. Only at these smaller w**eries can casual visitors get such a personal insight into the vintage - its challenges, nuances and accomplishments. Over the years, the reputation and popularity of the Yarra Valley has grown deservedly. Determined not to be overshadowed, a group of smaller w**eries banded together a number of years ago to create the Yarra Valley Smaller W**eries Association – a group whose combined range extends to a number of different styles, from the handcrafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet, and Shiraz for which the Yarra Valley is celebrated, to other styles such as Sparkling, Rose and Fortified w**es. All the w**eries in the group are open on weekends and public holidays with some open 7 days. They are host to or support various events throughout the year including the group’s ‘Shortest Lunch’ held in June over the year’s shortest weekend.

The Shortest Lunch kicks off in the morning and we couldn't be more excited. 13 w**eries, open fires, live music and some of the best w**emakers in the Yarra Valley waiting to pour for you. A few things to remember:

Since the event began, our 13 family-run w**eries have collectively raised over $100,000 for local Yarra Valley community groups - including Make-A-Wish and local schools.

Italian varieties, French classics, fresh ciders, live music from midday, and a menu that could genuinely be the highlight of your whole weekend.

Seville Hill sits in the heart of the Seville corridor and brings a warmth to their cellar door that matches the food coming out of their kitchen, and their epic line up of aged and new releases.

John never rushes his w**es- so don't be surprised to see some fantastic w**es with age on them for accessible prices you'd never find in the city.

The Italian Roasted Porchetta Panini is slow-roasted pork with fennel, rocket, apple, salsa verde and aioli - $20 and absolutely worth every cent.

The Homemade Potato Gnocchi comes tossed in exotic mushrooms and a creamy truffle sauce ($20).

Yileena Park is one of those cellar doors that rewards the curious.

Tucked away on Steels Creek Road in Yarra Glen, it's boutique in the truest sense - small production, hands-on w**emaking, and w**es that genuinely reflect the cool-climate character of this corner of the valley.

At Shortest Lunch they're bringing a menu that's as considered as their w**es.
Spezzatino di manzo - Italian beef stew served on creamy polenta ($20). Ciambotta - a slow-cooked Italian zucchini stew on polenta for the vegans at the table ($18).

A duo of Italian gelato in lemon sorbet and pistachio ($12). And an Italian cheese plate of gorgonzola and pecorino with crackers ($12).

Small w**ery. Big flavours. Worth finding. 🗺

Right on the Melba Highway. Dog friendly. Live music 12-4pm both days. And a food menu that takes zero shortcuts.

Their w**es are the perfect representation of this cool-climate region, elegant, refined, but made with minimal intervention to give you the purest expression on the palate.

Speaking of palates- you'll enjoy a hearty menu - crispy pork belly bites with chilli apple glaze (GF, $18), chicken breast with lemon thyme and risoni ($22) or a ratatouille gnocchi for the vegetarians (V, DF, $25). Save room for the chocolate marquise - decadent dark chocolate, salt, local oil and crisp bread ($18). Kids get a creamy mac & cheese for $12.

Whether you're coming from Healesville, Yarra Glen or straight up the Maroondah - Steels Gate is an easy yes on any Shortest Lunch route.

🌋 WINERY SPOTLIGHT: Six Acres, Silvan

Six acres. Volcanic soil. One family. And some of the most interesting w**es you'll taste all weekend.

Six Acres in Silvan is minimal intervention done right - Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Merlot grown on ancient volcanic earth, made with as little interference as possible.

The results speak for themselves. These are w**es with genuine character and a real sense of place.

And the food? Completely unexpected and so delicious- Mr Momo is serving Nepalese dumplings on the day - pan fried chicken momo ($18 for 8), vegan and veg momo ($18 for 8) or lamb momo ($19 for 8). Plus a BBQ Chicken Crunch Bowl with kale slaw, sweet mango relish, crispy noodles and corn chips ($20) and hot chips ($10).

A Yarra Valley vineyard. Volcanic soil. Nepalese dumplings. This is exactly why The Shortest Lunch is unlike anything else. 🥟🍷
