Today’s baon is Indian butter chicken—rich, comforting, and always a hit

My kids love my version with chickpeas and firm tofu (to make it really packed with protein) that oftentimes they ask me to double the tofu

This batch was made in the Instant Pot, which makes everything so much easier

I seldom serve corned beef, and when I do, I prefer to cook the frozen kind. I personally think frozen has better quality, taste and texture. Compared to the canned version na super mushy, this one has a natural meatier taste, firmer texture, and less salty/processed flavor (imho)

Maybe it’s just me but i feel less guilty serving the frozen kind cos I like to think it has fewer preservatives 😅 i buy the brand from the grocery

Steamed Pork with Black Bean Sauce for baon today—saucy, and still warm by lunchtime. My kids like how the rice at the bottom of the jar catches all the flavorful sauce

I grew up eating this at dimsum tables. The pork was always soft and packed with flavor

Through the years of making this, I found out marinating overnight really helps the flavor go deep, and a cornstarch coating keeps the juices in during steaming

I omit the usual cut and use an equal mix of skinless pork belly (trimmed of excess fat) and pork kasim for eating convenience and baon practicality ❤️

Baon tip for busy mornings ✨
Sinigang—but not in the usual soup form

Today’s version: sinigang fried rice for my college kid heading to the lab🧪
Same comforting asim-linamnam

Sauté garlic, pork (i used pork samgyupsal), and sinigang veggies (kangkong, sitaw, okra—whatever you have). Add leftover rice and season with sinigang mix to taste. Optional sili if they like a little heat 🌶️

Packed hot into our trusty so it stays warm till lunch

Today’s baon is inspired by my oppas Park Seo Jin and V❤️ I saw them make this in an episode of Jinny’s Kitchen, I’ve recreated it several times since. I packed some banchan of squid and anchovies since I have some in the ref, received a big tub as pasalubong from Korea🇰🇷

Chibap is what Koreans call this fried chicken and rice dish. I made it even better (aka simpler to make) by doing a shortcut and using ready-to-heat chicken tenders, instead of frying chicken from scratch. I always get my chicken tenders from .mart because I like that they are already fully cooked and made from WHOLE chicken breast fillet. I just put them in the airfryer at 190 for 16-18 minutes and they are ready👌🏻

Jinny’s Kitchen chibap is rice, fried chicken, soy sauce, honey, scrambled egg, crushed nori, and drizzle of Mayo in a bowl. Feel free to add gochuchang if your eaters can tolerate the heat 🔥

Spaghetti ala Pancake House for today’s baon 🍝

Made a sweet-style meat sauce full of beefy goodbess with grated cheese on top—classic comfort food for a long day at the lab🧪🥼⚗️

Packed it warm in the so she can have a proper, cozy meal in between experiments. No microwave needed, no soggy pasta, and no plastic leaching—just hot, homecooked goodness, still warm by lunch🍽️

Had some store-bought burger patties sitting in the freezer, so I turned them into a quick and hearty hamburg curry. Perfect for when you just want something warm and flavorful without starting from scratch

I just use S&B curry cubes, how do I make it taste more homemade and deep? Stir in soy sauce, ketchup and a small k**b of butter

I sometimes add a soft egg or a side of shredded cabbage if I have it

Pork Chashu with 7-minute ramen style egg. Back to making baon today as it is the first day of lab intership for one kid 🧪🥼⚗️

Some Pork Chasu kitchen tips:
⏰I always chill my cooked pork belly for 5 hours before slicing. This helps firm it up for neat, even slices
🔥lightly torch slices to add color and flavor
🐷if fat is ok for your eaters, pork belly will give that melt in the mouth texture 💯
❤️use to maintain food temperature. Nothing is more unappetizing than cold rice and sebo on the pork chashu 😢

It feels like a full circle moment, standing in the kitchen with my —just like old times. We’ve had this baonan since the kids were in grade school, and it still looks and performs like new💯 no dents, no scratches—just solid reliable quality.

Vietnamese Meatballs are usually served over vermicelli, vegetables and nuoc cham sauce. My version however omits the vermicelli as it’s for someone on a low-carb diet.

It’s not clear in this photo, but underneath those meatballs, are a colorful mixture of cabbage, carrots, green and red bellpepper. Perfect for those on a low-carb diet and those watching their sugar/carbs intake

The meatballs are a flavor bomb of patis, lime juice, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, coriander seeds… so good!
