Have you ever been handed an objectively perfect cup of coffee by someone who made you feel completely insignificant?

The coffee scene has undeniably leveled up.

Today’s baristas have an incredible wealth of knowledge—latte art is flawless, extraction yields are meticulously calculated, and the understanding of the craft is higher than ever.

But somehow, in the pursuit of all this technical perfection, the industry is losing its most crucial ingredient: a good attitude.

Being a barista was never meant to be a performance to showboat how much more you know than the person standing across the counter.

It is, at its core, a hospitality profession.

When we use our knowledge for professional posturing instead of genuine connection, we build a massive wall between the bar and the people we are actually meant to serve.

A perfectly dialed-in pour means absolutely nothing if the person drinking it was made to feel small.

True mastery of the craft doesn't look like arrogance; it looks like patience.

It is the ability to provide a warm and comforting coffee experience for the person on the other side of the bar.

What is one specific thing a barista can do—beyond just making great coffee—that instantly makes you respect them? Drop your thoughts and let's talk about what real hospitality looks like.

Also, don't forget to give your favorite barista a shoutout or simply share your best coffee experience so far, and let's celebrate the ones getting it right.
