The New Mexico Hip Hop Awards, Formerly The New Mexico Music Awards Underground is an event created by Epic Events in early 2010. The idea was to hold a red carpet event and awards show banquet in Albuquerque NM to honor local New Mexican artists. The event took place in 2010 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, and in 2011 it moved to the Albuquerque Journal Theatre located within the Hispanic Cultural Center. At its peak in 2011 the NMHHA had a ballot of over 120 artist, with a voting tally numbering over 200,000 voters in a one month period. It's popularity rose, and catered to all of New Mexico with a team of 32 NMHHA members, and cyber teams which helped run the entire show. Some of our sponsors were THE HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO, DIRTY SHIRTY, UNIVERSAL RECORDS, LOWRIDER MAGAZINE, AND MANY MORE. Our event was featured in 6 magazines, recorded live by 11 news outlets and media companies, and 3 radio stations.
In 2012 Epic Events discontinued its production of this event to further other avenues. To date The New Mexico Hip Hop Awards holds the record for being the largest, and most influential Red Carpet Event & Awards Show in the State of New Mexico.
