It's Friday, so my taste testing called for fish &chips!
Jacks Family Restaurant was on the list. They also serve up chicken and ribs, but that's for another day.
While I'm normally a patio patron whenever possible, it was a little too breezy for me today. Inside had lots of tables and I got a window seat. (Ok it wasn't even noon yet but I was hungry, ok? Lol)
Chalkboard specials were numerous but I went with the classic fish n chips.
It may be hard to see from the pic, but that fish was huge! Glad I didn't get the 2 pce, although it could easily have been shared with the generous portion of chips. Hmm, wonder if they split plates?
Coleslaw was just like Mama used to make, a nice light batter on the fish, and the best part - no salt (or very, very little) on the chips.
I demolished the fish and slaw and took the fries home. They're great reheated in the air fryer.
Staff was friendly. Will be back for sure.

The Cheese Festival is over and I'm still trying to recover. Seriously, it felt like preparing for a wedding!
Now I can begin to introduce Boards Gone Wild to Peterborough. And add a couple Signature products - Dips and Cheeseballs!
Just like the business, they will be unique and a little wild. I am really hoping to have them ready to go for the Great Artisan Market on the 28th of this month!
But I need to learn - a lot - to make that happen. For example, did you know leaving the white ribs in a jalapeno makes the cheeseball unpredictable and painfully spicy; removing them leaves you with a smooth, manageable warmth. I did not. I also didn't know how to char a jalapeno. (I do now! lol).
Hmm, can you guess what one of the ingredients will be in one of the cheeseballs??

Wow what a weekend!

So many people to chat with. My grandson Noah was a HUGE help, so glad he was there. He's actually really good too, came up with some great ideas.
It was also a huge learning curve for me. I think I'll share my thoughts under a different post on that.
My friend Brenda surprised me with a visit! I was so great to see you Brenda Adnerb Rekrab Barker ! And thank you for your purchase 😁
Next up the Artisan market on the 28th!

Whoohoo! Boards Gone Wild has just been accepted as a member of the DBIA! (That's jargon for the Downtown Business Improvement Association!)

I just took a look at the vendors for the Cheese Festival. It appears Boards Gone Wild will be the ONLY one serving up charcuterie! So, some advice please - there will be tons of cheese crafters and experts. Not sure Costco cheese is going to cut it. (no pun intended).
Should I grab cheese from local cheese factories? I'm looking at making 200+ cups for the event and there will be vegetarian cup options as well.
Thoughts?

Okay I have decided that I need to start blogging about all the fabulous food places here in Peterborough Ontario. Today I had an incredible breakfast but it wasn't just the breakfast that I was impressed with, it was the restaurant itself, their staff, and even other customers that make me want to come back over and over.
Before you even set foot inside, the name of the restaurant sets the tone. Light-hearted and tongue in cheek, inside it continues with fun and inspirational quotes found all over the walls and counter and even on mugs throughout the restaurant. I was there almost an hour and didn't even come close to reading them all. But I did read the menu and I got inspired immediately, wanting to collaborate and find opportunities to work with this restaurant. They are up front about it and it can be found on the front of their menu not hidden somewhere in fine print. I will gladly connect with any business that has community built into their philosophy.
And now about the food! I dove right in and almost forgot to take a picture! They are only open from 9:00 to 1:00 p.m. and only serve breakfast. But the size of the breakfast can vary from light to humongous. I chose the middle ground for my first adventure. And I still left some on my plate as hard as I tried to finish it all. The marble rye bread was huge and so good. Eggs are done to perfection, grilled potatoes, and something you don't see much anymore - a ramekin of beans which I didn't think I would eat but prove myself wrong.
While I'm trying to only visit one restaurant a week, I'm going to find it hard to stay away from this place for another 7 days or more. Who am I kidding? I'll probably be there on the weekend LOL.
The Fork is a must place to dine for your breakfast.
