Guarda vs Reserva: What do these terms actually mean?

For many of us, Reserva sounds familiar, but few know what it actually refers to.

In the world of Cava, the answer lies in ageing.

At RONÏS, all our wines are crafted using the traditional method and spend time ageing on their lees. Depending on how long they age, they fall into either the Guarda or Reserva category.

Why does that matter?

Because time shapes the wine. It influences the texture, the bubbles, and the aromatic profile in the glass. As ageing progresses, fresh fruit notes become more layered and nuanced, revealing new dimensions of character and complexity.

Understanding these categories is one of the simplest ways to navigate Cava with confidence.

From 1-on-1 tastings to crowded stand, we saw a new generation redefining Spanish sparkling wine through fresher branding, social experiences, and modern culture.

Today’s wine culture is more visual, social, and experience-driven than ever before. People are searching not just for a bottle, but for a feeling, a memory, a story.

At WineMad, we had the opportunity to meet importers, distributors, retailers, and hospitality professionals from across the world: the USA, Panama, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, and, of course, many regions of Spain.

The conversations confirmed a growing interest in premium Spanish sparkling wines and redefining how Cava is enjoyed around the world.

A blush of joy and one of the most gastronomic wines in our portfolio 🌸🥂

Our RONÏS Rosé may catch attention with its ballet-pink color, but what truly makes it special is how effortlessly it works at the table.

After 15 months on the lees and a gentle dosage, it brings together vibrant red-berry fruit, freshness, fine bubbles, and a dry, mouth-watering finish, making it incredibly versatile for food pairing.

Charcuterie, spicy dishes, barbecue-glazed meats, wood-fired pizza, tartars, berry desserts… even dark chocolate mousse.

This Rosé loves contrast, texture, and flavor.

It often sits after the whites in the lineup but once tasted, it quickly earns the attention it deserves. And we see it in practice at fairs: even now at Winemad, the same thing happens people fall in love with it.
