đŸ„š Day 9 Incubation Update! đŸ„š

Unfortunately, one of my favorite eggs turned out to be nonviable. That’s always a little disappointing, but it’s all part of the incubation journey.

Most of the Olive Egger eggs have such beautifully dark shells that they’re nearly impossible to candle with our incubator light, so those will remain a mystery until hatch day! It’ll be a fun surprise to see what’s been developing inside.

The good news? The Welsummer eggs are showing some amazing activity and looking fantastic! 😁 We can’t wait to see how these little ones continue to grow.

One of the most fascinating parts of raising chickens is getting the chance to watch life develop inside the egg—something most people never have the opportunity to see. It’s truly amazing to witness their growth before they ever hatch. We feel incredibly thankful and blessed to experience these little miracles firsthand.

Good morning, y’all! ☀

The farm stand will be closed this weekend as Ariel will be set up at a three-day market. Since she’s the one who plans the menu and creates all the goodies, she’ll be busy preparing for and working the event.

If you’d like to shop her handmade items, come visit her at the Celtic Festival right here in Hawkins! She’ll be there Friday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Tumble Bugs

* Break down manure quickly
* Reduce fly breeding sites
* Help lower parasite loads in pastures
* Improve soil fertility by burying nutrients
* Increase water infiltration and reduce soil compaction
* Help keep grazing areas cleaner for livestock

FUN FACT: Some dung beetles can navigate using the sun, moon, and even the Milky Way to keep rolling their dung balls in a straight line. Researchers have found this remarkable navigation ability in certain species.

A little transplanting project is underway! 🌿

Before anyone asks—yes, I know ferns are toxic to goats and chickens. 😊 No worries, they’ll be placed well out of reach of the animals.

The peppermint hanging baskets, however, will be going around the chicken coop and goat barn. Peppermint’s strong scent may help deter some pesky insects like flies, mosquitoes, and ants.
