Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.
After taking a break from baking over the winter, I decided to spend some time experimenting with a new flour blend that includes a bit more hard red wheat. Unfortunately, I didn’t get home as early as planned yesterday, and the dough overproofed more than I’d like.
Could I still sell it? Probably.
Am I proud enough of it to put it on your table? Not today.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that sourdough has a way of humbling you. Sometimes the loaf teaches the lesson. Today, the lesson was patience.
So there will be no fresh sourdough at the farm stand today. I may do a pop-up bread day later this week as I continue dialing in this rustic flour blend and get it exactly where I want it.
The good news is we’ll still be stocked with fresh pasture-raised rainbow eggs, loose leaf tea blends, mystery books and DVDs, and Sloane is planning to make some cookies. I’ll post as soon as she gets her sweets stocked in the stand.
Thank you for understanding and for supporting quality over quantity. I’d rather miss a bread day than sell a loaf I’m not proud of.
