Two months ago my family and I started following a meat based diet, slowly using up what would not serve us in future and replacing it with nourishing whole foods.
My reason for wanting to start on this journey was my health, more accurately my mental health. Last year we did a one month run and I felt great. We stopped because I 'thought' we couldn't afford going forward with this. A little tangent: I have always struggled with a little depression. But I have always fought against going on anti-depressants. I don't like taking medication and try to just let my body do the healing. Tangent over.
So in August this year I had a hard time with my mental health and I decided to go on anti-depressants. The thing I have loathed to do my whole life. I also decided to do carnivore again at the same time. My brain fog lifted within the first week and I have been feeling better every day. I am still taking my pills and I intend to go off them by the end of this month.
I have been a lover of food and cooking for most of my life. If you scroll back you will see. So when I started this way of eating, I lost a big part of who I was, or so I thought. Because who can cook without 50 different ingredients and spices?
I have quickly found a few pages that have inspired me to try new ways of cooking with meat. I am so excited to start! There is new world that opened up to me that I would never have known or explored if not for this life change. Rilletes, dried meats, patés, etc.
So these are the things that I will be focusing on for the foreseable future. I still have my veggie garden. I would probably sell my produce and gift some to my family and friends. I might start doing cut flowers, who knows? I am reinventing myself and the journey has opened up so many new opportunities and dreams to be had.
The pictures are of a delicious creamy venison liver dish, made with onion, mushrooms, liver, sour cream, salt and a bit of thyme. Simple but hearty. Then my liquid gold, my bone broth, that my son loves to drink. Last is a berry mix soaking in some vinegar water to clean it, eaten with some whipped cream for a dessert, something we don't often do anymore.
