Tonight’s dinner took me straight back to primary school days, when we’d roam the neighbourhood hunting for mulberry trees to feed our silkworms — and inevitably end up with stained hands, purple mouths, and a guaranteed tummy ache from all the fruit we “sampled.”

Never in my life did I imagine mulberry and habanero could work together… but they absolutely do.

What’s clear is that these flavours weren’t just tossed into a bottle — they’ve been expertly balanced by a seriously talented saucier.

Chilli Corn & Coconut Sauce from Urban Chilli SA🌶️🌽🥥

This one brings serious heat for a habanero sauce, while the sweetcorn and coconut add a creamy sweetness and beautiful depth.

If I had to describe the flavour, I’d say it’s where Mexico meets South East Asia — just as at home on a spicy fish taco as it is in a coconut chicken curry.

Urban Chilli SA’s Wasabi Lime sauce absolutely confockulated my mind — in the best possible way.

How does a hot sauce manage to be this light and refreshing while still delivering layers of complex flavour?

Using wasabi as a technique rather than a dominant taste is genius. It’s just enough to pop open the taste buds so the lime’s crisp zing and the gentle heat of habanero can shine.

It was perfect with my fish, and it’ll be just as good with chicken or a fresh salad. But honestly… someone needs to try this in a tequila shot or on the salted rim of a margarita. 🍸🍹🥃

Chipotle sauces can be tricky. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes — over-smoking the chillies, under-seasoning, or going a little too heavy on the sweetness. But MecaChi absolutely nailed the balance here.

This sauce hits all the right notes: smoky without being harsh, savoury with just enough sweetness, and packed with deep, rich flavour. It’s bold, complex, and seriously addictive. ❤️‍🔥

On a recent trip to Sedgefield, I stumbled upon a little slice of fermentation heaven — Feast of Eden Fermentary — and honestly, my jaw hit the floor.

Imagine walking into a space where every wall is lined, floor to ceiling, with glass jars bubbling away — filled with every kind of ferment you could dream up. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to roll up your sleeves, grab a stainless steel table, and start creating something spicy and wild right there.

The vibe? Pure inspiration.

I left with their Hot Kimchi, and it’s a total game changer — bold, funky, perfectly balanced. It brings serious attitude to stir-fries, soups, and stews… and next up, I’m throwing it on a mature cheese sourdough toastie because why not?

Fermentation goals, right there. 🥬🔥

Rough day at work — full battlefield vibes — so it only made sense to call in some OORLOGSOUS (war sauce) for dinner.

Tonight’s weapon of choice: Habasco by Bertie Fourie — a Louisiana-style hot sauce with a serious twist.

The lineup reads: Habanero, Yellow TMS (one of my all-time favourite chillies), garlic, ginger, salt, sugar, and apple cider vinegar.

The first thing that hits you is the ginger — bold, punchy, unapologetic — followed by a surprising sweetness that turns this into something special. Mix that with the Habanero and TMS and you get this wild, spicy candied ginger vibe that shouldn’t work… but totally does.

The burn builds slowly, then settles into that perfect “pleasant but present” heat that keeps you coming back for more.

I always say the real test of a sauce is the bottle level after dinner — and let’s just say, this one didn’t survive the night.

Absolutely loved it, and I can’t wait to work my way through the rest of Bertie’s arsenal. 🔥

Just when I thought my chilli tolerance was rock solid… in struts SexyChef ###, looks me dead in the eye and basically says, “Sit down, rookie.” 😂

This Chocolate Bhutlah x Carolina Reaper combo hits different — not in a bad way, just in that “whoa, I was not ready for this” kind of way. The burn is bold, all-encompassing, and surprisingly mouth-focused — no throat torture, which honestly made it even more enjoyable.

Flavour-wise, the lemon and honey play beautifully with the other aromatics, teasing you with a sweet, citrusy intro before the main event — the firestorm — takes the stage. 🔥

It’s delicious, it’s intense, and for me… it’s VERY HOT. ❤️‍🔥

First impression — that texture! It’s got that nostalgic Spur Durky Sauce vibe — smooth enough to cling to every wing, but with those little chunky bits that make every bite feel like a proper flavour explosion.

The flavour hits a perfect balance: slightly sweet, beautifully savoury, with just a whisper of lemon and garlic sneaking through.

Then comes the heat — slow to start, but by the second wing it’s sitting confidently at an 8/10 and holding steady. It lingers just long enough to remind you why you love the burn.

Yeah, that show had me hooked — and this sauce? Same energy. ❤️‍🔥

This White Habanero & Dragon Fruit creation from Capsaicin Creations doesn’t just bring heat — it brings mystery. I could pretend to pick out flavour notes like a MasterChef judge, but let’s be real… I have no idea what’s in here beyond what the label says (which, by the way, doesn’t give much away). And that’s totally fine, because whatever sorcery is going on inside that bottle just works.

Someone once told me that the reason KFC is so addictive is because we can’t identify the 11 herbs and spices — we just know it tastes like KFC.
Well, this sauce? It just tastes like Mother of Dragons.

It looks incredible, smells even better, has that perfect pourable consistency and hits with a fiery little kick from those white habaneros.
Bonus points for the dragon fruit seeds — they make it look like a classic pepper sauce but with a tropical twist.

Next test: a cheesy chicken schnitzel smothered in this fire. Stay tuned. ❤️‍🔥
