“Isijingi (Pumpkin Pap)”
Ingredients:

2 cups pumpkin, peeled and chopped

1 cup maize meal

2 tbsp sugar (optional)

1 pinch salt

2 cups water

Method:
1️⃣ Boil pumpkin until soft, then mash.
2️⃣ Add salt, sugar (optional), and water.
3️⃣ Slowly stir in maize meal to avoid lumps.
4️⃣ Cook on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring often.

✨ A sweet & savoury traditional favourite — perfect with tea or as a warm side dish.

“Simple Samp & Beans Pot”
Ingredients:

2 cups samp & beans mix

1 onion, chopped

1 stock cube

Salt & pepper to taste

Method:
1️⃣ Soak samp & beans overnight if possible.
2️⃣ Rinse well, add to a large pot with chopped onion.
3️⃣ Cover with water, add stock cube, boil until soft (about 2 hours).
4️⃣ Season with salt & pepper. Serve warm with chutney or tomato relish.

✨ Hearty, filling, and feeds the whole family for under R40!

Quick Tinned Fish Curry”

Ingredients:

1 tin pilchards in tomato sauce

1 onion, chopped

1 tbsp curry powder

1 potato, diced
Method:
Fry onion & curry powder, add potato & water, cook till soft. Add pilchards, simmer 5 min. Serve with rice. Delicious and cheap!*

2 tbsp sugar or honey

Pinch of salt
Method:
Boil water, add mielie meal slowly, stir till thick. Sweeten as you like. Top with banana or peanut butter for extra yum!*
