A weekend away with friends not long ago found us at Saisei Restaurant & Bar in Riebeek Kasteel for breakfast.

I’ll admit, I arrived a little dubious. Japanese for breakfast…? 🤔

But I left very pleasantly surprised. Turns out, Japanese breakfast is something I didn’t know I needed. 🍚🥢

Can you believe it? We’re already planning next year’s Food Tour to France! 🇫🇷

And even more exciting… we already have bookings! 😍

Next June, we’ll be heading back to the beautiful Château de la Creuzette in the heart of France for a week of food, wine, cooking, markets, long lunches, French villages and, hopefully, plenty of sunshine. ☀️🍷

I’ll be cooking with our guests, Paddy will be taking care of the wine, and together we’ll spend a week doing what we love most — eating, drinking, cooking and enjoying life around a table.

These tours are very personal to me. They’re not just about seeing France. They’re about experiencing it through food.
And apparently, quite a few of you are already keen to come along…

Hi, I’m Sophia. 👋🏼

Chef. Food lover. Cape Town girl. Coffee addict. 🍅 Tomato obsessive. 📷 Amateur photographer. ✈️ Perpetual traveller.

I cook and teach the food I love — predominantly Lebanese, with a little Italian and French thrown into the mix — and I believe the best meals are the ones that bring people around a table.

I’m happiest with a camera in one hand, a coffee in the other, and something delicious bubbling away in the kitchen.

I love food with a story, places with a sense of history, and people who make a table feel like home.

And, in case you’re wondering… I’m almost 59. 😉
Apparently, you’re never too old to do what you love, eat another tomato, or book another plane ticket.

Googled “cooking classes in Cape Town”?

Well, hello. You’ve found me. 👋🏼

My kitchen is where we cook the food I love — predominantly Lebanese, but with plenty of Italian and French thrown into the mix.

Think generous food, good ingredients, hands-on cooking, lots of stories, a little wine, plenty of laughter… and then sitting down together to eat what we’ve made.

The classes are small — just 8 people — which means you’re not lost in a crowd. You’re in my kitchen, cooking with me.

At last, all 12 of our guests have arrived and are settling into their rooms.

One of my favourite moments is watching people catch their first glimpse of the château — the collective gasp never gets old. It truly is breathtaking.

Tonight, the wonderful team at La Creuzette will prepare a beautiful dinner for us, and tomorrow we'll gather in the summer kitchen to cook together before enjoying lunch beneath the trees.

The château feels alive now, filled with anticipation, laughter, and the promise of new friendships. The energy is palpable, and all the signs point to a wonderful week ahead.
