Pancake Chronicles - 13th edition 🥞
For those of you who have followed our journey from day one, firstly, thank you for your love, and ongoing support.
As you know, there have been several iterations. We’ve changed our approach, our vision, and our purpose several times based on the evolving needs of our growing family.
Back in 2021, That Pancake Guy was a small pop up at Tea in The Trees 🌲 (Chintsa West). Mark and I started the business to help me earn extra money for Jesse’s school fees.
Then when Sam came back from a year’s worth of farming, and decided he’d like to farm abroad, we used the business to raise funds for him.
Turns out, he changed his mind, and decided not to go abroad. This was a very difficult decision at the time, but I believe that for him, it was wisdom. He’s autistic, and battles a lot with anxiety. As he got closer to his financial target, he had several breakdowns, and it was advised that he stay (perhaps pursue his dream in a few years time).
After a while, a local business offered him a job, and he accepted.
Then the business went into a partnership with Nyarie. Nyarie, and my middle son, ran the business. She focused on the Spargs customers, and he did external events.
During this time, I was really battling with my health, to the extent that I was medically boarded, so when Nyarie decided to move back to Zim, I once again took over the business (December 2025), and have been at the helm ever since. My middle son decided at the same time to focus on his career, so the timing was perfect.
To me it’s been an answer to prayer. I battle to cope in stressful environments, but baking for you, our much cherished customers has been such a blessing. I’ve made so many new friends, and I really look forward to seeing our regulars, and of course meeting new people is delightful.
Sam recently resigned, and has rejoined our crew, and my youngest, Jesse helps as well, then we have Ryan to help on busy days - a much valued part of our team.
To everyone who keeps us baking. Thank you. It’s much, much more than a humble pancake. It’s dignity, and independence.
As a single parent working with one income, financially things has always been a challenge, let alone dealing with health issues. So to all of you - thank you, thank you, thank you.
With so much love,
Cristin (& the team)
