🌱💚 GROWING TOGETHER – GOODWOOD LIBRARY COMMUNITY FOOD GARDEN 💚🌱

Generosity is truly in bloom at the Goodwood Library Community Food Garden! 🌿

This project is growing through the kindness, encouragement, donations and support of people, businesses and organisations who believe in food security, practical gardening, education, recycling and building a stronger community.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has already played a part:

🪴 Karibu Garden Pots
Thank you for your generous donation of concrete garden pots. With a little care, creativity and paint, these pots will become productive homes for plants. 🌱🎨

🌱 Grow Rite
A huge thank you to Helen and the Grow Rite team in Epping for supplying plant pots and trays to help us get our seedlings and propagation work started. 🪴

🌾 Master Organics
Sincere appreciation to Fiona Brink and the Master Organics team for supporting our soil preparation with organic manure and helping us build healthier growing conditions. 🌿

♻️ Romano
Thank you for donating compost to help feed and improve our garden beds. Every contribution helps us grow. 🌱

🏛️ Goodwood Library
A special thank you to Minda Maritz and the Goodwood Library team for supporting the initiative and providing a space where this community garden can grow.

🤝 Friends, Family & Community
Thank you to the Carstens and Hoffman families, Jason Ariefdien, and everyone who has offered encouragement, ideas, practical assistance, prayers and support.

🚜 Farm & Business Connections
Thank you to our growing network of farming and business contacts in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and the surrounding areas, including BWR Production, and to local suppliers who continue to encourage our green initiatives.

🌳 FRUIT TREES – TRANSPORT HELP NEEDED! 🚚

We are grateful to Yonela at Kouga Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape for the offer of small fruit trees for the Goodwood Library Community Food Garden.

The trees are in the Eastern Cape, and our remaining challenge is getting them to Cape Town.

👉 Do you travel from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town?
👉 Do you have space in a bakkie, trailer, truck or delivery vehicle?
👉 Do you know a transport company, farmer, nursery or business travelling this route?

If you can help us collect and transport the trees, please contact us:

📧 [email protected]

Every tree transported is another tree that can become part of this community food-growing space. 🌳💚

And we are not stopping here.

We are continuing to seek support for:

💧 Water tanks & water harvesting
🚰 Irrigation pipes & water-wise irrigation
♻️ Recycling bins & recycling equipment
🌱 Seeds, plants & fruit trees
🪴 Pots & propagation materials
🌾 Compost, soil & organic materials
🎨 Paint and creative garden materials
🛠️ Gardening tools and equipment

This is a project built step by step, person by person, donation by donation.

Growing Food. Growing Skills. Growing Communities. 🌱💚

Thank you to everyone helping us make it happen.

♻️🌱 GOODWOOD COMMUNITY RECYCLING & REUSE PROJECT 🌱♻️

Community helping the community. ❤️

Hi Goodwood neighbours and friends,

I’m currently working on a community project together with our local library, bringing together recycling, gardening, reuse, composting, community education and giving back.

I would now like to bring this into our neighbourhood as well.

♻️ WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If you have unwanted items that are still useful or recyclable, please don’t throw them away.

You can either:

📦 Drop them off — please contact me first so we can arrange a suitable time.

🚗 Arrange collection — contact me and we can see if collection can be arranged.

I prefer late afternoon, but daytime arrangements can also be made where possible.

📱 WhatsApp: 084 770 0314

♻️ HOW TO PREPARE RECYCLABLES

Please keep items clean, dry and separated where possible.

📰 PAPER & CARDBOARD

- Newspapers
- Magazines
- Office paper
- Cardboard boxes
- Cereal and food boxes
- Paper packaging

➡️ Flatten boxes and remove excessive tape, plastic and food contamination.

🥤 PLASTIC

- Clean plastic bottles
- Plastic containers
- Clean plastic packaging where recyclable

➡️ Empty, rinse and dry where possible. Please separate bottles from other materials.

🥫 CANS & METAL

- Food tins
- Aluminium cans
- Clean metal containers

➡️ Empty and rinse before donating. Allow them to dry.

🍾 GLASS

- Glass bottles and jars

➡️ Empty and rinse. Please handle carefully and keep broken glass separate and safely packed.

🌱 KITCHEN WASTE FOR COMPOST

Suitable plant-based kitchen waste can also be donated for composting.

Examples include:
🥕 Vegetable peelings
🍎 Fruit scraps
🥬 Vegetable scraps
☕ Coffee grounds
🍵 Tea leaves/tea bags where suitable
🌿 Small amounts of garden/plant material

Please DO NOT include meat, bones, dairy, oils, cooked food or plastic in the compost waste.

Keep kitchen waste separate and preferably in a closed container or bag so it can be transported cleanly.

🌿 UNWANTED PLANTS & GARDEN ITEMS

If you have unwanted plants, cuttings, seedlings, pots, containers or suitable garden materials, please contact me before dropping them off.

Plants can potentially be used to help develop the library garden and community spaces.

You can also donate curtains or similar suitable materials that the library can reuse for planting projects.

For example, clean curtains can potentially be cut into pieces and used as liners for suitable planting containers, depending on the material. Please don't bring mouldy, wet, heavily damaged or dirty material.

❤️ WHY?

Something you no longer need may be useful to someone else.

♻️ Recycle it.
🌱 Reuse it.
🪴 Grow something with it.
❤️ Give it to someone who can use it.

The aim is simple:

COMMUNITY HELPING THE COMMUNITY.

Please remember that some donated items may become part of the library's community project/property. We therefore ask everyone to keep donated materials neat, clean, organised and in good condition.

Please contact me before dropping anything off so we can arrange the correct place and time and keep everything organised.

📱 WhatsApp: 084 770 0314

If you have:
• Recycling information
• Recycling contacts
• Colour-coded recycling bins
• Composting advice
• Useful materials
• Plants or gardening items
• A recycling collection connection
• A business that may want to support the project

…I would love to hear from you.

🌱♻️ Let's start small and grow something good together.

Community helping the community. ❤️
