Importance of creep feeding (Kruipvoer)

Creep feeding is the practice of providing supplemental feed to young livestock (like calves, lambs, and piglets) in an area that the adult animals cannot access.

All livestock develops extremely fast during the first short phase after birth. It is therefore very important too take full advantage by providing them with additional nutritious high protein on top of what they receive from their mother
Protein and amino acids in creep feeds are the building blocks essential for muscle development. This ensures heavier animals at weaning.
Providing creep feed also helps with the early development of the whole digestive system resulting in a smaller more effective intestines.
This better developed intestine also means improved feed conversion and that you loose less to the fifth quarter at slaughter with a heavier carcass and more money in your pocket.

Animals should be introduced to creep feed gradually. good indicator is to monitor the stool. The animals should never develop diarrhea. This indicates over feeding and you should decrease the amount given to the animal
